David Hillel Koplon

June 19, 1936 - July 1, 2015 David Hillel Koplon of Birmingham, Alabama, passed away July 1, 2015. David was born in New Orleans on June 19th, 1936 before moving to Birmingham, Alabama at the age of 3. He attended Ramsey High School and was an active member of Kappa Nu Fraternity at the University of Alabama where he proudly wore crimson. He married his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Gloria Kahn Koplon. David and Gloria opened a lady's sportswear store called Susan's Sportswear and from there David went on to work for Parisian's at their top volume store in Eastwood Mall. For the past 34 years, David has worked as a life insurance agent with Guardian Life Insurance and First Protective, achieving many sales and production awards throughout his career. He was a life and qualifying member of the Million Dollar Round Table and a convention qualifier as an elite producer. He was highly respected in the insurance/investment industry, and in 2009 was honored as the Spirit of First Protective. Over the years, David was an active member of both Temple Beth-El and Temple Emanuel. He devoted his life to being a loving husband, father of four, and grandfather of twelve ("Poppy"). To all who knew him, he treated them like family, with a warm heart and open arms. David always put others first; he dealt with his illness courageously and gallantly, never losing his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife, Gloria Kahn Koplon; son, Scott (Amy) Koplon of Birmingham, Alabama; daughters, Susan (Rodney) Barstein of Birmingham, Alabama, Cindy (Jonathon) Geer of Louisville, Kentucky, Amy (Jeff) Beiser of Charlotte, North Carolina; grandchildren, Justin Barstein, Jamie Barstein, Daniel Barstein, Carly Geer, Brandon (Alisa) Geer, Jason Geer, Adam Koplon, Joshua Koplon, Jordan Koplon, Samantha Beiser, Benjamin Beiser, Elliot Beiser; parents, Sam (deceased) and Nellie Koplon (deceased); and brothers, Joe (Sandy) Koplon (Joe--deceased). Funeral services will be held at Temple Emanuel on Thursday July 2nd; 12:00 noon; 2100 Highland Avenue Birmingham, Alabama, with burial in Elmwood Cemetery (private service).Rabbi Jonathon Miller officiating. Visitation will be at: 4944 Altamont Road (35222); Thursday 7/2/2015 3pm-5pm; Friday 7/3/2015 2pm-4pm.
