YOUNG, Jerold Owen "Jerry" Age 83, of Newton Center, MA on Wednesday, May 4, 2016. Son of the late Harold W. Young and Rose Riesman Young. For 57 years, he was the beloved husband of Abbe Beth (Robinson) Young. Loving father, adored by his children, Elisabeth Ann "Betsy" & David Harris (Needham, MA), Marjorie "Marji" Bearse Young Chimes (Stamford, CT), and Andrew Robinson & Adelaide "Lita" Young (Needham, MA). Devoted grandfather to Jason and Alexander Harris, Daniel and Joseph Chimes, Carina and Nicola "Niki" Young. Fond brother-in-law of the late Gerald & Eve Robinson Popkin. He will be deeply missed by nieces, nephews and extended family and friends. Graduated Brown University Class of 1954. President and Chairman of Harold W. Young, Inc., Food Brokerage for over 60 years spanning three generations. Proud to be the first, second-generation member of the Candy Hall of Fame. Respected for his knowledge, integrity, innovation and sense of humor. Committed supporter of Beth Israel Hospital, Brigham & Women's Hospital, Brown University, New England Celiac Organization, Combined Jewish Philanthropies, Dana Farber and the State of Israel. Loved his business, family, friends, summers on Cape Cod, traveling and boating. Services at the Levine Chapels, 470 Harvard Street, Brookline, on Friday, May 6 at 11:30am. Interment at Atereth Israel Cemetery, 776 Baker Street, West Roxbury, MA. Following the interment, memorial observance will be at The Clubhouse at the Gables, Dedham Street, Newton, MA through 6:00pm. Memorial observances will continue at the family residence on Sunday and Monday, 6-9:00pm. In celebration of Jerry's love of life, donations may be made to the Jerold Young Fund at Brigham & Woman's Hospital, 116 Huntington Avenue, Boston, MA 02116, or the charity of your choice.

I was so saddened to hear that Jerry died. I played tennis with him for several years and found him to be the sweetest man I've known. He was always in good spirits and lifted the spirits of those around him.
I send my condolences to you and your family at this sad time.

David and I went to pay you a call on Sunday afternoon and there wasn't a car in sight of your house. I just read the obit carefully, and see that your Shiva times were in the evening. Somehow I managed to miss that. So sorry.
