I first met Barbara back in 1953 when I was four years old. when she moved into the house across the street. Her daughter Joan became my best friend and Barbara my second mother.
There are really no words to describe what an important addition she was to my life. I always referred to her as " "My Mrs. Lawson "even after she became Barbara Leavitt.
The best way to describe it, as I told her many times, "She added sparkle to my life".
She taught me how to live life to the fullest and she taught me to turn to God on a daily basis and to always say "extra prayers" when someone was in need.
She was a great example on how to embrace life even if you had great loss and pain to endure. You would always hear Barbara say. " I am so blessed". Even though she had tremendous illness and loss of loved ones.
She took me to many places as a child that my parents were unable to. She even spent hours trying to teach me how to swim. She had endless love and endless patients.
One thing I know for sure, this world was a much better place because Barbara was here. She has left her mark in the hearts of many and I know her legacy of love will live on, even in my own grandchildren because of who she helped me become.
I was honored to be a part of her life even in her final years. Amazingly she was still a great role model teaching me how to grow old gracefully. We had so many long meaningful conversations during that time that I will always treasure.
Barbara I will miss you everyday of my life but I am so happy to know you are in heaven where you truly belong. I love you, Karen
