HALE, Sterling Howell Age 62, died peacefully at his home in Newton, MA on April 16, 2010, after a long battle with cancer. Sterling is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mika Hornyak; his son Samuel Hale; and his sister Wanda Hale and her husband, Michael White of Herndon, VA. Born in Wilson, NC, and raised in Portsmouth, VA, Sterling was the son of Maggie and William Hale. A graduate of the University of Richmond, he served in the US Army in Germany. He later earned his Masters degree from Ohio State in City and Regional Planning and Economic Development. He was an accomplished senior executive at Fidelity Investments in both Boston and London, managing international real estate development projects for the past 20 years. Having raised his family in Brookline, MA, Sterling enjoyed traveling the world for both business and pleasure. Besides his devotion to his family and many dear friends, Sterling had an enduring passion for classical music and the Red Sox. A memorial service will be held at a later date. A memorial service will be held for Sterling Howell Hale on Friday, May 14, 2010 at 2pm at The Center at Westwood, 590 Gay Street. Westwood, MA. Sterling was a devoted husband and father. I do not think that there was a day that went by when we were together that he did not speak about his wife and son. Sterling was also a wonderful friend, whose friendship and companionship I cherished and whose wisdom I sought out. I was always in awe of his ability to take the high road, despite such adversity around him. May his memory be a blessing and a lesson for those whose lives he touched. I also worked with Sterling at the Newton Planning Dept in the 80's. He was one of the hardest working and one of the most intelligent people I've known. He also had a passion for making things happen. His kind and easy going manner made it easy for everyone to work with and relate to him. Know that he is missed.
