Kate I miss your smile and the encouragement that you gave me. I was just looking at a few pics of you wearing my head wraps. I know your spirit is here with us.

I just saw this notice of Kate's death! I am so sad. I was Kate & Nathaniel's nanny in1967; I loved them and their father and Katherine and their Grandmother, Mrs. Margaret Pulitzer and Lena (their Siamese cat). I would pick Kate up after school at Shady Hill; and often she would be hiding up in a tree. After I returned to teaching, I would still go with them over to their grandmother's in Manhattan; and in 1970, they called and said, "Would you like to go to Italy with us?" And of course I did! But gradually we lost touch; and I have wondered how she had progressed with her photography and am so pleased to learn from people's comments that she had really used her talent. If anyone knows the address of Nathaniel and/or Catherine, Kate's stepmother,I would appreciate receiving them.
Or give them my e-mail address:

I also knew Kate in high school. I loved what Emily said, yes the rhyming! She actually spoke in verse! Her mind was always ten million light years ahead of mine, and yet I understood everything she said. It makes sense she became a photographer because she saw everything before everyone else! So blessed to have known her, she lit up the world!

On behalf of the African Wildlife Foundation, I would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Ms. Freedberg's family and friends. Ms. Freedberg had been a supporter of our conservation work for close to a decade, and we were saddened to learn of her passing. We hope your fond memories sustain you during this tough time, and may she rest in peace always under a starlit African sky.

I befriended Kate in High school, and the journeys we went on together ! Runnin from the bank with $5,000.- (hers) to the ticket agency to fly us to Florence, her boldness, her courageous approach to life has stuck with me, to some people's dismay! Her rhyming, and her flamboyent way of giving the world men the proverbial boot, it was all so delicious. I will reach out to on the other side- phones aren't in the way now, and look for her support while I am still traipsing this world.

Kate was my best friend at Shady Hill School. That was a long time ago. We were little then, but we would walk away from the crowds at recess, tuck ourselves in under a tree somewhere and contemplate life together! Her distinct spirit left an indelible mark on mine. I wish I had seen "Dog's Eye View." That is distinctly the Kate I knew.

I remember Kate from our teenage years (probably around the time the picture was taken of her by Jaya Aaron), when she was such a close friend of my cousin, Temple Aaron. Our lives took different paths that never crossed again, but I am greatly saddened to learn of her passing. I will remember you, Kate.

We will miss her as a patient in our dental office. Kate always had a wonderful anecdote to tell, and was quite witty. She was also fluent in French, and cracked me up as it was our way of speaking behind the doctor's back. I'm sure she is already entertaining everybody in heaven! I had a lovely time at a dinner party at Kate's back in April. I hadn't seen her since both of our stints in Rome, and it was great catching up. Needless to say, the night culminated in hours of dancing. That was just Kate's spirit. I know that it will greatly be missed.

There was a large photo of Kate's very like "Purple Sky" at the Hampshire College alumnae show last month, where I was so fortunate to see Kate. It was breath-takingly beautiful, more like a painting, as much of her work is. She spoke about how she and Ursulina made their photos together with joy and amusement. In her artist's statement for “Dog’s Eye View” she says, speaking of Ursulina: "Her point of view is unique. I find the world from her perspective surprising, informative, comical and endearing." Being with Kate last month was as always uplifting, interesting and fun. She was looking forward with great enthusiasm to her graduate work in the fall and finishing the book she had started. It is heartbreaking that none of us will get to see the next phase of her creative, original and wonderful life unfold. But her life was made more wonderful by the amazing devotion of her family and friends, especially in recent years. Love and blessings to all of you.
