GREEN, Randolph E. Sr. "Randy" November 13, 1921 - July 27, 2017; was born in Tuskegee, Alabama. His parents, Dolly and Walter Green, had six children of which he was the youngest. He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years Melba (Craig). His children, Helen Morissette, Randolph "Randy" Jr., Dolly, Sherrill Goms, Elizabeth, Craig, Jonathan "Deke", Kimberly Stubbs and the late Edward, Michael and Ray Ferrill. There are 24 grandchildren, 23 great-great grandchildren, two great-great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and family members. At 18 years of age he entered and served in the CCC - Civilian Conservation Corp for two years in Verdenburgh, AL. February 19, 1943 he was drafted into the 9th Calvary at Fort Clarke, TX which was previously the Buffalo Soldiers. He was a Corporal in charge of a company of men and horses and could saddle up and mount a horse in less than 10 minutes. Manager and lead singer of the Silver Leaf Gospel Singers of Boston, MA, which was founded March 11, 1945 at the home of Ruth & William Finch, Roxbury, MA by Rev. James E. Lockwood and Randolph Green. Hosted radio station show WTAO 740 AM (1949-1959) in Cambridge, MA; WMEX in Boston, MA for 5 years; Recorded several albums (78 rpm); Recorded "Oh, Mary Don't You Weep" (with Ronnie Earl 2009). He had worked as a Tuskegee Airman (Waiter) Carr Hotel, Tuskegee, AL (Head Waiter) Welder, Hingham Shipyard - built Destroyers, LCI Boats & Barges until October 1943. 1950-1965 a welder at the Watertown Arsenal and excelled at his craft, and was chosen to conduct special demonstrations of welding techniques for Officers of the Army from Washington, DC. For his efforts he received a Special Award. He also assembled feeder housing for bullets in large chamber of big guns aboard B52 Bomber planes. The B52's flew over 400 mph and had 8 engines, could fire 6,000 rounds a minute. Every piece of work he did on this units were flawless, and upon inspection were never rejected. With his excellence and exceptional skills he was hired by General Electric and Eastern Industries, where he continued in the welding profession. A holder of U.S patents: Heliarc Welding Rod Hold; Backing Gas System and Grilling Rack (Pat. awarded 2016). As a deacon for over 70 years at Concord Baptist Church, a celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 at 11 a.m. Concord Baptist Church, 180 Blue Hill Avenue, Milton, MA.
