Dennis Harmon

"Denny" Harmon, 77, of Bradenton, FL passed away peacefully on Jan. 25, 2017 with family by his side. He was born in Spurlington, KY and raised in Watseka, IL. Denny excelled in all H.S. sports and attended Lake Forest College and Southern Illinois Univ. on athletic scholarships. He held the record for the javelin for many years at SIU. Denny played in the Senior Bowl, was drafted by the Chicago Bears in the 8th round in '63, and was later picked up by the Denver Broncos. He invented a football blocking dummy for which he was granted a patent. He was a successful H.S. football, basketball & baseball coach and enjoyed a subsequent career in computer sales. Denny is survived by Carolyn, his wife of 38 yrs; sons Jeff (Stacey) & Tom (Amy); grandchildren Ava, Brendan, Emily, Ethan & June; sisters Joyce Bochat & Judy (Dick) Oakley; a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews & friends; and by Cruise, his beloved Jack Russell Terrier whose devotion & zest for fun brightened his days. He was preceded in death by his parents & his brother, Larry. Our thanks to the many old friends who called or visited Denny in recent years and to our friends at Rudy's Agape House who provided TLC during Denny's last months. Deep gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff, volunteers & clergy of Tidewell Hospice for the incredible care, support and peace provided to Denny and his family during his final days. A Celebration of Life will be held at 11AM, Sat., Feb. 4th at Bayside Community Church, 15800 SR 64 East, Bradenton, FL 34212.
