One of the greatest gifts anyone can give is their effort to help others be better. For many years Steven J. Holmes gave just that effort to others. To add even more, he gave that effort to young men and women. He took on a task of which there are very little accolades and a great number of detractors. But he did it consistently and with a hardy laugh. It is a shame that there are others that will not see that effort in the future. Yet we need to take solace in the fact that that there are many who have been effected by the great game of hockey because of the effort of Steve Holmes. To Kathy and Becky; Our family's' hope is that as you grieve and heal you take great pride in your husband and father's efforts and what he accomplished while he was here. We will be forever grateful for the opportunity he gave us in Hamburg and the overall friendship he showed us

I wanted to take a moment and share some thoughts. Steve built me some beautiful fences on my property. My husband and I were always happy to see them rolling in with the trucks, as he was always pleasant and a pleasure to talk to. He was honest and knowledgeable, patient and fair, and I trusted his opinions, and called him a friend. We would go out of our way to check in with him when he was at the fairgrounds, and say hello. He was a good man, and we are deeply saddened to hear of his passing. Saying a prayer tonight for his family, God Bless.
