Kenneth BOYD Obituary

Published by Calgary Herald from Jan. 4 to Jan. 5, 2013.
BOYD, Kenneth James
June 8, 1923 - January 2, 2013
Ken passed away peacefully on January 2, 2013 at the age of 89. He was born in Calgary and raised in the town of Gleichen and was part of the armed forces in World War II that stormed Normandy Beach on Day 6. After returning home he got his law degree from the University of Alberta, which is where he met his wife Myrnie. Through his distinguished career, Ken headed the law department at Texaco Oil for 23 years and was the Founding Chairman of the Alberta Land Compensation Board until he retired in 1988. He authored the book Expropriation in Canada: A Practitioner's Guide. Ken was very much a family man and together he and Myrnie had four children – Penny (Eric), Lisa (Bob), Nancy (Darcy) and John (Daylene). He also had ten grandchildren: Sonia, Paul, Sylvia and Grace, Jesse and Samuel, Katie and Alex, Michael and Connor. Ken was a very loving husband, father and grandfather. He was wise, kind and knowledgeable. He loved to read, had a very green thumb, he was a life- long learner and he had strong interest in the world and events. Ken was so happy when his first granddaughter Sonia was born on Robbie Burns Day as Burns was one of his favourite Scottish poets. Below is one of Burns' most famous and one of Ken's favourite poems.
A Red, Red Rose
O my Luve's like a red, red rose
That's newly sprung in June;
O my Luve's like the melodie
That's sweetly play'd in tune.
And fare thee well, my only Luve
And fare thee well, a while!
And I will come again, my Luve,
Tho' it were ten thousand mile.
-Robert Burns

I remember Ken from 45 years ago. He was an honourable and kind man and made me when welcome when I was a little girl. My sympathy to his whole family.

We were lucky to have known Ken for about the past 14 years as a wonderful friend and neighbour. He always had a good story and was so interested in everything. We will really miss him! Our deepest condolences to Myrnie and all the family. Sincerely Linda, Fred and Erika McNeill

My sincerest condolences to the Boyd family. I spent many of the same years at Texaco as Ken. I also played in the same R.C.A.C.S. Band.
