THORSTEINSSON, Eirikur Thorvaldur
December 18, 1945 - Wadena, Saskatchewan
February 15, 2015 – Calgary, Alberta
Erik, beloved husband of Mary Thorsteinsson (nee Hochman) of Calgary, passed away on Sunday, February 15, 2015 at the age of 69 years. Erik was caring, accomplished and a real gentleman. He had a real zest for life and radiated happiness. He graduated from Laurentian High School in Ottawa 1964, and went on to achieve a B.Sc. from University of Alberta 1968, before completing his M.Sc. from University of Iowa 1972, and his University of Calgary Education degree in 1974. Over the years he was involved in Geological field work summer jobs in the Arctic with the Geological Survey of Canada (GSC), taught junior high school Earth Sciences in Iowa, worked as an Exploration Geologist for Panarctic Oils, Petro Canada, and Norcen Energy, where he supervised an exploration team under the management of Dale Dolphin. After leaving Norcen, Erik contracted as a geologist with BP Canada, Husky Energy, and Rife Resources. He was a member of the Canadian Society of Petroleum Geologists (CSPG), as well as of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta (APEGA). Erik satisfied his love of cars by selling them at Hyatt Infiniti. He was an avid Golfer, and especially enjoyed fun foursomes with Nick, Jenni, and Mary, tennis at World Health Edgemont Club in the men's doubles league, and watching Atlanta Braves baseball and Detroit Red Wings hockey. He owned Mercedes Benz diesels and enjoyed collecting Elvis Presley records as well as other 1950's Rock 'n' Roll artists. Erik is survived by his spouse of thirty-five years, Mary; his younger sister Anna Dagnall of Calgary; Aunts Thelma Lissel and Thora Moir of Calgary; numerous beloved cousins in AB, SK and MB; and many other extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents Dr. Raymond and Jean Thorsteinsson of Calgary; his loving grandparents, Peter and Elizabeth Thorsteinsson of Wynyard, SK. and Kris and Anna Kristjanson of Foam Lake, SK; and many of his beloved aunts and uncles. Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY(Crowfoot, 82 Crowfoot Circle N.W.), on Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. Mary, My thoughts and prayers are with you at this difficult time. When I was Erik's caregiver, I truly enjoyed the time we spent together. Our daily walks, and chats, listening to his many cd's and of course dancing. He loved to dance. It was a pleasure to be part of Eric's life and I am very thankful for having the opportunity to meet such a wonderful man.
(I feel so terrible, I would of been at the service, but unfortunately I just came across the notice today.

I will always cherish the memory of Erik's laughter. His laugh and his sense of humour were unique but nonetheless contagious.

Anna, Mary , I am so sorry for your loss , Eirikur was a kind gentle caring sole, always happy, very interested in what others had too say, a great conversationalist . I always looked forward to his visits to Wynyard, to see our Grandma Elizabeth , Uncle Stan Thorsteinson and Auntie Helen and my Mother and Father Lillian and Jon Thorlacius at our old farmstead. I really enjoyed our conversations about Eirikurs accomplishments and jobs he held . He will be greatly missed.
Thinking of u all during this difficult time.
