Jimmy C. "Jim" Terrell, 55, passed away at his home in Austin, Texas on September 13, 2017 after a yearlong battle with pancreatic cancer.
Jim was born in Alice, Texas on June 5, 1962 to the late George C. Terrell, Sr. and Dessie Boles Terrell. He was the youngest of 13 children. Jim graduated from Alice High School and attended Del Mar College. While in Alice, Jim was employed by Flournoy Drilling Company and was the Managing Editor of the Alice Echo-News. In 1996, Jim moved his family to Austin to begin his career in government. He was employed as Chief of Staff and Committee Clerk for Representatives Richard Raymond, Ignacio Salinas and Yvonne Gonzales-Toureilles. In 2015 he took a job as the government liaison for the Health and Human Services Committee where he was employed at the time of his death.
Jim is survived by his wife of 34 years, Monica and their three children, Ryan (28), Cameron (21) and Allison (11); mother-in-law, Carol Burgeson (Wallace), brothers; Bob, Jack and Mike and sisters, Dessie ("Boots"), Joyce, Patricia, Carlyn and Darlyn, numerous sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins. Of course, we can't leave off his four-legged buddies, Charlotte and Johnny Cash. He also leaves behind many close and dear friends, you know who you are.
Jim was preceded in death by his brothers, Bill, George and Gene.
A visitation will be held at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home on Sunday, September 17, 2017 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The funeral will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday, September 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. with a reception to follow. Burial will be private.

Jim was an outstanding person. This is no secret. Considerate, respectful, so caring, I think he knows how he will be missed. He was a consmmate professional and was a joy in which to work with. Blessings to friends and family. He spoke warmly of all.

Jim was my husband's best friend and he was also the best man at our wedding 30 years ago. Jim loved people and life and inspired others through his sense of humor and his acceptance/love for everyone he encountered. He enjoyed his family and friends. I was surprised and saddened to read Jim's obituary this morning. I worked with him through his role with the House Human Services Committee and later when he was at HHSC. I appreciated him and respected him. I am sure he will be deeply missed by his family. I am sorry for his loss.
