Eleanor Rowe Obituary



Eleanor Jane Rowe, 82, of Westminster, MD died Saturday, November 1, 2014. Born August 15, 1932 in Toledo OH, she was the daughter of Alvah & Margaret Garner, and wife of Donald E. Rowe who died in 2004. She graduated from Olney High School in OH in 1950 and worked in the finance office at Hirzel's Canning Factory in Northwood, OH. After moving to MD, she became an office administrator at The Brethren Service Center in New Windsor. She was a longstanding member of The Church of the Brethren, and became a member of several local churches, most recently the Westminster Church of the Brethren, oftentimes serving as church secretary, treasurer, and deacon. She served as treasurer for The Mid-Atlantic District Church of the Brethren. She loved music and played the drums, accordion, organ, and piano and directed both children's and adult choirs at church. She enjoyed knitting, sewing and cross-stitch. She is survived by a sister, Eileen Mahaney of Oregon OH, daughters Susan Bartlestone and husband Martin of Ambler PA, Carol Rowe of Lyons IL, sons Robert Rowe and wife Sandy of Durham NC and Donald Rowe and wife Chris of Westminster MD and grandchildren Chris, Melissa, David, Jennifer, Zack, Jason, Andy and Casey. She donated her remains to the Maryland Anatomy Board. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at 3pm at The Westminster Church of the Brethren, 1Park Place, Westminster, MD 21157. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn A. McCrickard. Interment will be held at a later time. The family will receive friends on Saturday from 2pm until the start of the memorial service. Memorial contributions can be made to Westminster Church of The Brethren.
