Edgar Snyder Obituary



Mr. Edgar Smallwood Snyder, 90, of Johnsville, died Thursday, January 15, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. Born August 18, 1924 in Plane #4, Mt. Airy, he was the son of the late Jerome Rippeon Snyder and Gladys Elizabeth Kelly Snyder. He married, June 17, 1950 Elizabeth Ann Warner. They were married 64 1/2 years. Mr. Snyder was employed at the Western Maryland Dairy, Detour; Cambridge Rubber Factory, Taneytown; Western Maryland Railroad Shops, Union Bridge and retired from Lehigh Cement Company, Union Bridge after 34 years of service. Following retirement he worked as an usher for the Frederick Keys Baseball Team in Frederick for 15 years. He was a member of the Johnsville United Methodist Church, serving as a trustee, usher and custodian for many years. He had also been president of the Johnsville Cemetery Association for many years and served as the sexton. He was a charter member of the Johnsville Ruritan Club, serving as president, vice president and director, with 54 years of perfect attendance. He was also a member of the Johnsville Senior Citizens and an honorary member of the Union Bridge Fire Co. Edgar enjoyed steaming shrimp and frying hamburgers for the Union Bridge Fire Co. He also fried chicken with Wilbur Warner for the Ruritan and the Johnsville Church. He saved soda can tabs for the Ronald McDonald House, attended the Lehigh Retiree's Association and Johnsville Senior Citizen activities. In addition to his wife he is survived by two daughters, Opal Jane Snyder of Johnsville and Edwina Urban and husband Samuel of Mt Airy; a grandson, Anthony Edward White and wife Crystal Gayle White; great grandchildren, Wyatt Andrew Wagner, James Dakota Wagner, Abigail Elizabeth White and Blake Anthony White, and step-granddaughter Michelle Elizabeth Hagan; sister, Betty Blumenauer and brother, Robert Snyder. He was predeceased by 3 sisters and 2 brothers. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 19th at the Union Bridge Church of the Brethren, 124 S. Main St., Union Bridge, with Rev. Dr. James Benedict, church pastor, officiating, assisted by the Rev. Dr. George Carpenter. Interment will be in Johnsville United Methodist Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Hartzler Funeral Home, 6 E. Broadway, Union Bridge, 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. Sunday, January 18. Memorial contributions may be made to American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, MD 20852 or to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216.
