Katie, somehow I just heard about "Daddy Robert". Mom and I were talking about both of you a few days ago, and I decided to google you and found the obit. I am so saddened for your loss. I so wish I could have seen him again. I've been trying to talk a lot to mom about the past as her memory is not good anymore, but she remembers you and Robert well. I would give anything for mom to be able to see you. She is in a nursing home in Lexington, SC where we live, and it breaks my heart every day. Please know you are in our thoughts and prayers, and we would love to hear from you. Would it be possible to get your home address? My email is [email protected], and my cell is (803) 609-1341. Please convey my love and sympathy to Margaret, Mary, and Rupert. Love you all, Elizabeth Hamilton Parker

Robert had true grit; absolute integrity in public service. I was privileged to assist him in his 1974 Senate Democratic primary campaign to replace the retiring Sen.Sam Ervin.

Sen. Morgan was a true patriot guided by courage, common sense, and a search for justice. Was his pilot for 1974 campaigns, and I treasure the time with him: his sense of humor, energy, dedication and optimism.

I went to Washington as a 4-H winner in 1975, ate in the Senate dining hall, between him and Senator Helms. At that meeting, I took my mother's ECTC Yearbook, in which my mom and Senator Morgan were in the marching band picture together. He remembered my mom, and we enjoyed talking about his college days. I am so pleased to have had that time with him. He was the consummate gentleman and patriot. His family needs to know what a GREAT impression he had on that younger version of me. My condolences to the family in your loss.

Too few people appreciate what a substantive leader and progressive figure he was in North Carolina, and in the U.S.Senate.
For example, as a member of the Frank "Church Committee"--a signal reform committee that investigated the whole U.S. intelligence community--Robert was in charge of cleaning the stables at the F.B.I. He courageously carried out his assignment. It was a privilege to assist him in winning the Democratic primary nomination in 1974; and to observe him in the Senate when I worked for the Senate Majority Whip.
He was a man of the people--a populist--of absolute integrity. Robert's is an all-American story.

It was an honor and wonderful experience to have worked for Senator Morgan in the Raleigh office of his law practice. He was a kind, thoughtful man, who imparted invaluable wisdom, that still guides me to this day. My deepest sympathy to the family. Margaret and Mary, may God bless you both during this difficult time.
