Your my only true friend and now your gone. I called you days before and you told me all was ok. I miss you so much and don't know what to do without you. I want to be with you but i know i must wait as i take care of my mom. Gosh i loved you and you loved so many. I had a dream the other night to call you but in it you said you were ok. I then called and left a message and asked for you to at least send me an email to let me know your ok. I asked your workers to alert me if you passed as i know your not one to want others to suffer seeing you gone. Well i missed your funeral but i will never miss you who gave me love for so many yrs. Why oh why dear God didn't you take me Julie was so much more loved than me. bye love Danielle Clarke [email protected]

God's richest blessings are my desire for the family and and countless friends of Julie Johnson. Her never-ending interests and the excellence she reached in all these areas was amazing. My friendship was based on our "People's Class", adult Bible study group at church. As class treasurer, I was aware of her often sacrificial financial support for our missionaries, her love for the study of the Bible, and her unabashed love for the Lord Jesus Christ.
It would be her desire that all the readers here would know Him too.
Julie will be missed in our class greatly.

Julie was important in many ways, for different reasons, to many different people. She was vibrant to the end and the generosity she exhibited - in time, effort and money - to her causes was incredible. If the Chicago Aurora & Elgin exists in the hereafter, she is riding it now. Godspeed and clear signals.

My deepest condolences to Julie's family. I was privileged to have known her for over 30 years at Illinois Railway Museum, where we shared a cordial and professional relationship.
One thing I think I'll always remember about Julie at the Museum was how she would find a different kind of signal to place along our mainline. She would restore it with the enthusiasm of a kid with a new toy on Christmas morning. When it was done and installed, I'd get a phone call from her to let me know I had to make a change in the rulebook to accomodate it, again with the same excitment in her voice.
I cannot think of anyone else who was as passionate as her about the people or things they cared about. I also came to admire her deeply for the courage she showed in being true to herself.
Wish I could offer my condolences in person tonight/tomorrow, but I am unable to attend due to illness.
May God's Holy Spirit be with Julie's family and friends, giving all the strength and peace they need in this time of loss. My wife Kathy and I will keep Julie and her family in our prayers.
Sincerely,
Harold Krewer

I first met Julie Johnson about ten years ago when I began my transition. She was wonderfully supportive to myself and the transgender community through her participation in the many Chicago Gender Society events. Through her efforts, justice and equality of transgendered individuals will be achieved in the United States. I am deeply saddenned by her passing, but her memory will remain in the minds of her many friends and associates for many years to come.

Julie’s decades of experience in the design, construction, operation and management of IRM will be sorely missed. She always brought a unique historical perspective to discussions toward future planning, which I will personally miss. Her fingerprint is on so many aspects of the museum – all of us who came after benefit from her vision and generosity. My deepest sympathy to Julie’s families, both through blood and associations, on our collective loss. She can now ride the CA&E to eternity.

My deepest sympathy go out to Julie's family and Julie's family of co-worker friends. Julie was one of those special people put here to help the world. I was one of the lucky ones to meet her early on my Journey, she gave me the hope and strength that I could follow in her footsteps. Every time I got to see Julie I made sure to let her know that she is the Mother figure of community; she was always looking out for us. She would always smile and give you one of her hugs when I would tell her she was my second Mom. She would tell me that we all are all each other’s Family and that we needed to take care of each other. Julie always made you feel special and I’m sure she is in a special place now. Julie you will be sorely missed. Go in peace Hon and know you will always live on in me and all the other hearts you have touched here.
With all my Love,

Very saddened by the passing of Julie Ann Johnson. I considered her to be a great friend and a very nice person. In Feb 2010 I met her for the first time. She was very helpful with regard to helping me compile research and historical photos of the Chicago Aurora and Elgin Railroad for a video documentary. In the summer of 2010, Julie invited me to her home. We reviewed a preliminary version of the documentary. The subject was of great interest to her during her lifetime. She loved the Chicago and Elgin Railroad. It became the Illinois Prairie Path, the documentary was about that transition. She found the subject of the video to be fascinating, and decided to compile a very comprehensive online archive about this railroad and its previous history as the Aurora Elgin and Chicago Railway. A few weeks prior to her passing I spoke with her on the phone. She had a lack of energy but was enthusiastic about her archive, the
"Julie Johnson Historical Collection of the Chicago Aurora and Elgin & Aurora Elgin and Chicago railroads" and was looking forward to reviewing an update of the video documentary. She passed on to the ages with the knowledge that a passion of her life, an important compilation of history, was complete.
