We want to express our sympathy for the passing of Vincent. Our children had him as a teacher at Hadley and our son Joe raked leaves for you when you lived in the house near GBW. He was a special Ed student and you were very kind to him. Our prayers are sent to you and your family. Rich & Nancy Kirkwood and family

I am so, so sorry to hear this news. My deepest sympathies to you, Derek and Donna. Vince was a wonderful legislator and role model to the many students he taught, as well as to legislative staff, fellow lobbyists and other legislators. We wouldn't be in the mess we're in as a state if we had more Vince Persico's in Springfield.

Derek, as you may recall, I lost my dad at 67 to pancreatic cancer. Please know you are in my thoughts and prayers. It is so Unbelievably hard to
Lose a parent, but This I know as your dad told
Me almost every time we talked -- he was so proud of the husband, father and man you have become.

May you experience strength and comfort that only comes from God during this difficult time. You will remain in my prayers! My deepest sympathies!

I had Mr. Persico in his first year at Main Street School. I believe me, Tommy Condon, Steve Cowherd, Matt Bartlett, and more were giving him a run for his money that year! As we boys were informed by Vince that we were all going to get N's in the area of Self-Control because of our poor behavior in the classroom, we knew that our parents were not going to by sympathetic to our cause. So we made a deal with Mr. Persico--and challenged him to a basketball game. The losers would get N's while the winners would escape the wrath of their parents with S's. I do remember that I wound up on the winning team and Bartlett and Condon on the losing team along with Vince. Thank God that Vince kept his part of the deal and gave me an S in Self Control and Condon and Bartlett N's!

Definitely a teacher who liked kids and made school fun! My condolences to the family of Vince Persico, a true difference-maker.

Both my kids were fortunate to have you as their Social Studies teacher at Hadley Jr. HS - you made learning not only fun but you inspired them - to the point that my son actually followed in your foot steps and has been teaching Social Studies at a Jr HS for the past 12 years and loving it. Thank you for all you did - you made a difference - you made this world a better place.

my heart will never forget how Mr. Persico sang to me back in my 80's history class as I would waltz in, putting a smile on my face, changing the tone for the day! You will be forever missed Mr. P, keep on singing, Michelle Hartline-Myers.

Mr Persico was a creative and inspirational teacher. I will never forget the time we had to make up our own countries along with anthems. Our lyrics were to the music of Freeze Frame. These are the school memories that will always be cherished. Thank you.

We were so sorry to read of Vince's recent death. We have known him for years as he worked in politics around the State. I, Jan, would often run into him when I was doing advocacy in Springfield.
We haven't read what actually caused his death, but hope he didn't have to suffer.
Please know our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Vinnie
Some of my best years teaching were when I was on a team with you. You teased me all the time and made me laugh. I joked with you that you always forgot my name and you just said I was the little Italian girl. You were an amazing teacher! The kids really respected and looked up to you. You used to make them hot chocolate on cold days. I enjoyed making you sausage and peppers to celebrate before you left for Springfield! You and Donna were so kind to invite me to your lake house. All these special memories are cherished and will never be forgotten! May you rest in peace dear friend!

One of the greatest teachers of all time. So glad I had him and then was able to represent him at NIU being a winner of the Persico scholarship and then ending up teaching at Hadley, full circle. Prayers to his family from the Heighway family.

Thank you for your service, Mr Persico- You were my favorite teacher in those turbulant Jr high years. I loved hearing all the great works you did while you served as a Rep. Fitting that you taught Social Studies and then went out there and put it to action.
You will be sorely missed.

To Donna, Derek and family: We loved Vince so much and miss him every day. He was such a good friend and we had so many laughs. Vince could take a ribbing better than anyone and was just such a good person that he made all his friends better. He was joking even when he got sick. We will all just really, really miss him and our prayers are with you.

So sad to hear this news. Vince was an extraordinary teacher. More than that, he was a friend who always brought a smile to my face and laughter to my soul. I cannot think of any of our numerous interactions that did not end in levity. He was a devoted father who raised a remarkable son. He also was a husband whose relationship with Donna could and should be emulated by all men. I regret our life paths took us away from each other, but I cherish the memories of our time together.
