Not only was I privileged to have Mr Carmichael as my chemistry teacher I also babysat for his children on special occasions. They were so good it was an easy job.
Chemistry was not my strong suit, but he was very patient with me. He would have been very surprised to know that I did teach high school chemistry at one point in my teaching career. I'm proud to have had him as my teacher. Blessings and comfort to his family.

The other day we were in Target and saw a guy in the checkout line-looked just like Bob. I was reminded of what a great guy he was and how proud it was to work with him.

Virginia and Danny,
I am so sorry for your loss.
Aside from Bob being the first person to try and teach me chemistry I remember the joyous and familial gatherings at your house after basketball games. Sitting in your home surrounded by our friends and family after a Friday/Saturday night of "Little Giants" basketball is one of my most cherished and crystalline memories of high school. I am still teaching at HPHS and I often think of my teachers as I continue to roam these halls. Bob was both literally and figuratively a giant figure at this institution.

Wonderful teacher. Wonderful person. In August of 1962 I dreaded chemistry. By June of '63 I loved it!

Mr. Carmichael was the first teacher to convince me that I was in charge of my own education - best lesson ever. Whenever an unanswerable question came up, the answer became his quest as well as mine (or anyone else's). Best teacher I ever had. He will remain alive in his students.

Bob was an asset to Hawthorne at Leesburg FL when they lived there. We missed them when they moved south. RIP, Bob. At last, you are at peace.

Bob was a great guy and colleague, and a friend to many of us in the HPHS Math department. His pleasant disposition and friendliness was appreciated by both faculty and students, and will be remembered for his contribution to all those he interacted with.

Mr. Carmichael (never could call him Bob) was a great teacher and mentor to me at HPHS. Trips to away basketball games, etc. are fond memories as well as other activities. I knew his kids when they were young and even tried to mop the kitchen floor one time for Virginia. The visit with my teenage son in Florida was very special. I still remember "...now Lee..." with gentle wisdom to follow. The world has lost a true "mensch". My deepest condolences to Virginia and all.

Bob was certainly a great friend as well as a colleague and department chair at Highland Park High School. Rookie teachers can really make mistakes but a teacher like Bob would patiently help me through the many many I made. Bob was so generous with his time and his help. I was lucky to work with him and to be able to call him a friend.

It was an honor to have been a colleague of Bob's during our teaching careers...we shared lots of fun times and have wonderful memories (kids do you remember Bonnie babysitting?). One of the good guys - gone...but never forgotten!

Freshman year I was horribly lost, and many times the hieght and tender heart of Mr.Carmichael kept me from extra tardys. Between him and his daughter(my HP "Big Sister") Cathy I felt watched over and made it through.

When I was a kid, my dad used to take all of us to the high school pool on Sunday afternoons to swim. When we got home we would have cereal for supper and play board games (Monopoly or Risk most of the time) till Ed Sullivan came on. Then it was off to bed. Occasionally we got to pull out the trampolines, swing on the big ropes in the gym, or invite a friend. What a great way to grow up.
