I was fortunate to have known, respected, and admired Ian for over 50 years. He had so much talent but you would never hear it from him. A brilliant mind, a terrific athlete, but to his friends he was just one of the guys. Your absence will be felt by everyone who knew you.

My Dear Cousin Ian,

You were one of the most kindest and gentle man I have ever known. You were so humble and just a wonderful example of what a good human being should be. A great family man, husband and father and grandfather. Your judgement was so above board and such a compassionate person.

I will always be grateful to you for being there for me
Love,
Cousin Hope

Rarely have I encountered a person well-loved by all he encountered without seemingly an enemy in the entire world. In this era of polarization and discord, Ian was a calm and reasoned voice of perspective and experience. I only met Ian five or so years ago, but developed a deep respect for him. To have been so accomplished but to have remained such a thorough mensch is a strong and lasting legacy. He will surely be missed by his family and friends, but the example he set in the legal profession will also be acutely missed.

Judge Levin was a remarkable and kind person both on and off the bench.

I knew Ian as a colleague for many years and always liked and respected him. But in the last few years, I have come to know him as a friend. He was one of the most caring, decent and kind human beings I know and these qualities were coupled with intellectual brilliance and deep wisdom. Our world was better for his presence. I will miss him greatly.

I wish Ian's family serenity and peace in the knowledge that you gave him the groundedness and happiness that allowed him to share his goodness with others.
