SUZANNE HARRISON Obituary

SUZANNE E. HARRISON

Suzanne was born Jan. 25, 1944 in Tulare, CA to Robert C. and Ethel V. Soults. She died March 6, 2012 at Enloe Hospital in Chico, CA, with her husband, Richard L. Harrison and daughter-in-law, Charlene Harrison at her side. She was 68.

Suzy grew up in Tulare, attending a one room Grammar school through the eighth grade, and the Tulare High School, where she was an accomplished pianist, an honors student, and an outstanding tennis player on the tennis team. On graduation in 1962, she left for Chico to attend (then) Chico State College. She had a dual Major in English and Psychology. She met her husband, Richard in 1964, and they were married in Tulare on Aug. 22, 1964. They returned to Chico, where Suzy continued her studies at Chico State, while her husband, Richard worked. In 1965, they moved to Berkeley, CA, where Richard continued his studies at the University of California, Berkeley. While in Berkeley, Suzy was a secretary for the Scripps' supported American Society for Eastern Arts, a position which she enjoyed greatly, and in which she learned a great deal.

On completion of Richard's studies, the couple returned to Chico, where Richard went to work in Public Accounting for Kent Ahlswede, CPA, and Suzy became a mother with the birth of son, Andrew James on July 21, 1967, and son, Christopher Paul on May 20, 1969. Suzy was an active and involved mother. She participated in Cub Scouts; she was part of the group that started the Academics Plus program at Chico Unified School District. She never missed a Little League game, nor a youth soccer game. She coached a boys' team for Chico Youth Soccer League, and went on to become the Executive Director of Chico Youth Soccer League. She attended high school football games to watch son, Andy, and high school soccer games to watch son, Chris. She became a "Team Mom" for the Chico State men's soccer team, and was noted for her lasagna team dinners.

Suzy received a degree in interior decoration from the Chicago School for Interior Decoration in 1979, and worked for Bestway Interiors in that capacity for a time. She then started her own business, which she continued until her retirement. She was her husband's secretary when he opened his CPA practice in 1972, until he merged his practice in 1977. She was a legal secretary for a time.

Suzy is survived by her brother, Robert J. Soults of Tulare, CA; his children, son, David Soults and daughter, Ellen Suarez; and their children, Kimberly Roeker (David) and Kenneth and Zachery Serpa, and Chloe and Ethan Suarez (Ellen). She is also survived by her husband of 48 years, Richard L. Harrison of Chico; and son, Andrew James and his wife, Charlene, and their daughters, Lindsay and Alyssa of Red Bluff, CA; and son, Christopher Paul and his wife, Anne Harrison-Marchand, and their son, Gabriel and daughter, Emmanuelle of Rouen, France.

Suzy requested that no service be held, however for those that might want to remember her, a contribution in her name to Chico Unified School District athletics, football or soccer, or Chico Youth Soccer League would be nice indeed.

Her sense of humor survived to the last, even though her body failed. She told a good friend the morning before she died that when her time came, whe would raise her hand and say "Check please". She is in a better place, and in time her loved ones will join her.
