William Charles Markel

ADELPHI: William Charles Markel, age 85, of Adelphi, Ohio passed away suddenly on September 13, 2013. He was born December 7, 1927 in the family home to the late John and Leva (McDowell) Markel.

Bill served during WWII in the U.S. Army and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from Rickenbacker Air Force Base in civil service. Bill was a member of VFW Post #108 in Chillicothe; also, many will remember him from the Adelphi Fire Dept. where he volunteered his time as Santa Clause.

Bill and his wife of 62 years, Sarah (Derexson) Markel, are parents to Barb (Morris) Fetherolf, Dan (Elaine) Markel and Carl William Markel (deceased); Bill is also survived by a son, Eiji (Echo) Uchima; grandchildren, Andrew (Shannon), Nicole, Naomi, Su, Hidema (deceased); step-grandchildren, Greg (Kim) and Danielle (Mike) Shanton, Melissa (Chris) Fetherolf and Scott (Pennie) McCain; special great-grandchildren, Carter, Nalin and Landon; step-great-grandchildren, Caushen, Cohen, Olivia, Chloe, Emily, Heather, Sarah, Timothy; sister, Grace Whitson (preceded in death by sisters, Sylvia Acker and Florence Freisner); brother-in-law, James R. "Bob" (Jane) Derexson; sister-in-law, Judy Derexson; cousin, Lorraine (Jim) Wilson; several nieces and nephews including devoted nephew, John Derexson; special friends, Nicole's mother, Diana Markel, Tina Disbennett, Jane Stevens, Dale and Ann Carter, Duke and Bonnie (deceased) Mettler, Homecare nurse and very special friend, Calvin McCloed.

Family will receive friends 5-8pm Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at Defenbaugh-Wise-Schoedinger Funeral Home, 151 E. Main St., Circleville, OH 43113 where services will be held at 12 noon on Thursday; interment to follow at Green Summit Cemetery; Chaplain Jim Ferrell, officiating.
