Martha Chesko Obituary

The people who were lucky enough to know this beautiful woman can understand the pain and loss that her beloved family is feeling at this time.

Martha was a giver; she was strong willed yet kind; she showed unconditional love and compassion to everyone. Martha was beautiful inside and outside and the love she had for her family was expressed through every aspect of her life.

Martha was born in Newport Township on Dec. 2, 1925. She married Jack Chesko and they resided in Nanticoke their entire lives until he passed away Oct. 21, 1998; they were lucky enough to share their 50th wedding anniversary on Jan. 1, 1998. Jack and Martha's love, marriage and family traditions were a constant reminder and inspiration to her daily life.

They had two daughters, Sandie Iracki (Joseph) and Laurie Olzinski (Lenny). The two girls became the center of their lives. Although Martha had two sons-in-law, she always called Joe and Lenny her two sons. She was blessed with four grandsons, J.J. Iracki (wife Trish) and Douglas Iracki (wife Leslie), Daniel Olzinski (girlfriend Paige) and Joshua Olzinski (wife Jennifer). Nana Martha loved the closeness she shared with all her great-grandchildren, Damon, Maksym, Irelyn and Riley Iracki. Martha is survived by only one beloved brother, William Benis.

Martha was the daughter of late Joseph and Sophia Benis. Martha was preceded in death by her siblings, Jean Bonomo, Betty Belpulsi, Ann Modla, Mary Hart, Andrew Spernago, Rose Martin, Julia Chlystun, Josephine Richardson, Edward Benis, Dorothy Zotto, Lillian Bailey, also at birth were Frances, Margaret and Joseph.

Friends and family may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., 614 S. Hanover St., Nanticoke. The funeral arrangements will remain private.

The family would like to thank Dr. Matthew Kozicki, Dr. David Greenwald and staff, Dr. Jeffrey D'Andrea and Carol Morris, RN, who treated Martha with great love and compassion.

Because she loved her Shih Tzu, Lexi, who always stayed at her side, we would appreciate any donations be made to the SPCA of Luzerne County or Blue Chip Farm.

My Deepest Sympathy to Sandie and all her family. My mom was friends with Martha. They worked together for awhile. Sandie and I graduated the same year from Nanticoke. Martha and my mom were both born the same month and year! I didn't know that until now. Again, I am so sorry for your loss.
