Virginia Covert

Virginia Covert Virginia Geraldine Covert was born June 27, 1925 in Cleveland, OH, to Edward and Helen Virginia Hartman Gabel. She died Jan. 29, 2015 in Topeka. Her mother and stepfather Mahlon C. (Mike) Walker moved the family to El Dorado in 1938, where Mike worked in the oil fields. Virginia graduated from El Dorado High School in 1943. She married Dale Covert on Sept. 24, 1943 and they made their home in El Dorado. They were parents of two daughters Dana and Sydney. Dale died in 2012. She is survived by daughters Dana Wethington of Topeka, and Sydney Gunderson and Alan Johns of Prattville, AL; grandsons Brad Gunderson of Midvale, UT, and Philip and Julie Wethington of Wamego; great grandchildren Marshall Wethington of Manhattan, and Catherine and Andrew Von Seggern of Emporia; brother Richard Gabel of El Dorado; niece Cathy and Ken Eaves of Larned; great nephew Matt and Tiffany Eaves of Basehor; and great great nieces Madelyn and Cecilia Eaves of Basehor. She was loved as well by many friends and her smile, spunk and positive outlook will be missed. Carlson's Funeral Home, 200 S. Star, El Dorado, KS is in charge of arrangements. Visitation with the family will be at the funeral home Monday, Feb. 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be officiated by Pastor Jol Klein of Wamego at El Dorado Sunset Lawns Cemetery Tuesday, Feb. 3 at 11 a.m. Lunch will follow at the historic El Dorado train depot on North Main Street.
