Linda Powell died peacefully on July 16, 2013 surrounded by her son, daughter-in-law, and beloved granddaughter. She was the only child of William H. and Lois E. Neely, deceased, of Jackson MS. Married to Joe J. Powell, Jr. of Jackson, MS. for 64 years, they had three children, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Her husband Joe is a resident of Jackson, MS. Her daughters are Carol L. Powell, deceased, and Emily Powell Levin. Emily lives in Akron, OH. with her husband Michael and two children, Zoe and Isaac. Her son Joe J. Powell, III and his wife Karen live in Jackson, MS. Linda's granddaughter, Erin Powell McCain and her husband Cody live in Madison, MS, with their three children, Cameron, Mason and Tyler. Her grandson Joe J. Powell, IV lives in Birmingham, AL. She will be remembered for her formidable intellect, wit, and devotion. She lived her faith by being part of the daily life of so many people over the course of her 80 years, making each of those lives richer and better. Friends will miss a seat at her table with a full pot of tea, a view of the tranquil setting of her home she tended so lovingly, and her, perched eagerly waiting to listen with care and good counsel. Her family will celebrate the woman she was and the life she lived at St. James Episcopal Church, 3921 Oakridge Dr., Jackson, MS. Visitation will be at the church at 10:00 A.M. and services at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 27, 2013. The family requests memorials in lieu of flowers.
