Herbert Rhea Obituary

Herbert F. Rhea

Carthage

Herbert F. Rhea passed to the eternal life September 17th. He was born in West Point, MS February 12, 1930. The family moved to Carthage in 1966 where he was associated with the poultry industry until his retirement. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and continued his loyal service to his country and state in the Mississippi National Guard for twenty-seven years.

One of his favorite hobbies was crafting pieces of colonial furniture that were especially made for his family and will be passed to generations. Herbert was often known as the "Head Cook" for his family and friends. The meals prepared for those special times will always be remembered.

A man of simple means and desires left a legacy of character and integrity to be followed.

The family wishes to express the deepest of appreciation to the many friends who gave unselfish support during the last few years of his declining health. It gave him the opportunity to live as independently as possible.

He was a member of Carthage Church of Christ and his request was at the conclusion of this life a military funeral be conducted. A special appreciation is expressed to The United States Army in fulfilling this tribute.

Services are 2:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, 2014 at Wilcox Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Eddie Neal and Bro. Stephen Evans officiating.

Interment, with military honors, will follow in Carthage Memorial Gardens.

Preceding him in death was a brother, James Rhea.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Helen Rhea of Carthage; sons, Frank (Linda) Rhea of Carthage and Alan (Terri) Rhea of Carthage; daughter, Vickie (Riley) Sanders of Carthage; sister, Alice Scallions of Columbus; 6 grandchildren, Dustan (Meredith) Sanders, Bradley (Amanda) Sanders, Andy (Cayce) Rhea, Jon Paul (Mary Stewart) Rhea, Mary Elizabeth Rhea, Emily Caroline Rhea; 4 step-grandchildren, Zach (Jade) McBride, Blake McBride, Brady McBride, Drew White; 5 great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Carleigh, and John Riley Sanders, and Mitchell and Liza Jane Rhea.
