Pickens

Garon Brown Courts, lifelong resident of Pickens, Mississippi, passed away on Saturday, March 11, 2017. Garon was a graduate of Central Holmes Academy, Holmes Junior College and Mississippi State University. He owned and operated Garon's Hardware until 2000 when he and other family members opened the Magnolia Marble Company in Pickens. Garon had volunteered for the Pickens Fire Department and had served on the Pickens Board of Aldermen. He also played on the men's Pickens Softball Team.

Garon was an avid gardener, hunter, fisherman and cook. He was a founding member of the Jack Lake Hunting Club and more recently a member of the Richland Hunting Club. Garon loved the experiences and fellowship of the great outdoors with his buddies. Garon was a passionate fan of the Mississippi State Bulldogs, especially the baseball team. He was a true lover of music, lyrics and riffs.

Born April 23, 1954 to Walter Daniel (Bobby) and Grace Brown Courts, Garon passed away at the age of 62. He was preceded in death by his younger bother Murray Dean Courts, both parents and wife Cathy. He is survived by his daughter, Michelle and son in law Billy Wilburn of Brandon and daughter, Liz Courts Taylor of Pickens; by his four grandchildren, Sterling and Cate Wilburn and Avery and Parker Taylor; and by his brother, Myron Courts of Lexington and sister, Tracie Courts Dickerson of Canton.

Garon was laid to rest at the Ebenezer Methodist Cemetery following a graveside service on Wednesday, March 15th. Pallbearers were Dick Atkinson, James Jones, Frankie McCrory, Eddie Murtagh, Carl Pepper, Jack Rauenhorst and Sid Upshaw. Donations in Garon's name may be made to the Ebenezer Methodist Church Cemetery Fund.
