JOAN WIRTZ Obituary

WIRTZ JOAN IRIS BYCROFT WIRTZ, age 90, of Mentor, Ohio, formerly of Toledo, passed away Friday, January 23, 2015 in Cleveland. She was born October 15, 1924 in Brisbane, Australia to Harry and Margaret Bycroft. She was devoted and happy to be able to enjoy her family and her home and graciously welcomed friends and relatives for visits. Joan often acknowledged how blessed she felt to be touched by so many wonderful people and places. She was a proud Aussie and a brave soul in her time to sail to the United States to marry her Charlie. Her loss leaves us with many happy memories of her joy for life. The widow of Charles J. Wirtz, Sr., her husband of 35 years, she is also preceded in death by George Campbell, her companion of 26 years and grandson, Kyle Wirtz. Surviving are her sons, Ken (Maria) and Chuck (Joann) Wirtz; grandchildren Todd, Kevin (Kathy), Clayton (Tiffany) and Matthew (Jennifer); great-grandchildren Karson, Merzen, Lanie and Wynn; George's children and grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family. Friends will be received on TUESDAY FROM 2-8 P.M. IN THE WALKER FUNERAL HOME, 5155 SYLVANIA AVE. (WEST OF COREY) where a Rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services will begin Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by the Mass of the Resurrection at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph's Church, Sylvania. Interment will follow at Ottawa Hills Memorial Park. The family suggests memorials to a charity of the donor's choice. Condolences may be sent to the family at walkerfuneralhomes.com. The family would especially like to thank Lindsay Tobin, Joan's caregiver for her help and support.

Knowing Joan at her home at The Port has been very special to me. Joans humor, conversation and spunk has always made a better day for me. What great sons and family she has including her friend Lindsay. Won't be the same without her.

Ken and Chuckie, I so sorry for your loss, your mother was a great, funny and loving person.I can't help remember of all the little trips and get togethers we had together growing up. Watching our parents have so much fun together from Toledo to Cleveland. The ladies of laughter Joan, Ethel, Mary Jane, and Dorthy. My body is sad but my heart is so glad she was in my life. You and your families is in our prayers..

I have so many wonderful memories of good times and good talks with "Joanie". She was a character, and I always loved how she was quick to laugh and quick to speak her mind. She holds a most special place in my heart. I love you, Joanie. Rest in peace.
