Graveside services welcoming all those touched by Roy Edward McCollum's life, will be held on Monday, December 10, 2012, at 2:00pm at the Portales Cemetery in Portales NM with Wayne Baker officiating. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his family and friends.
Roy McCollum was born November 1, 1931, in Caddo TX and went to be with the Lord on December 6, 2012, in Clovis. He lived a vast and robust life touching many lives of friends and family in his 81 years of life. Roy's interest varied from the art of carving to knife creations, a life with a vast knowledge of things that made life interesting. Helping grandkids overhaul their newly found vehicles in his studio-shop which hosted many a discussion of a how-to engineering and family laughter. A long profession of master automotive mechanic all which was punctuated by others in his younger days punching cattle, farming, plastering, fence-post cutting and helping families with living a life. He was, Grandpa, Papa and Dad to 4 kids, 8 grandkids and 9 great grandkids and many others of the extended and extensive family and friends.
Roy is survived by his life-long partner Mrs. Sylvia Ann McCollum married August 31, 1950, and with her raising 4 kids in their marriage of 62 years. One daughter and three sons, Roy Glen McCollum of Tularosa, NM, Dan McCollum of Athens TX, Connie and Jerry Ross of Ruidoso, NM and Troy and Maxine McCollum of Portales, NM. He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Leo McCollum of Harrah, OK, John and Jackie McCollum and Bill and Lana McCollum of Poulsbo, WA and Francis Henderson of Vigo Park, TX. He is preceded in death by parents BJ and Lottie McCollum, sisters Willie Marler and Mary Boyd.

I grew up just a few blocks from the McCollum Family and spent alot of time at their house. Mr. McCollum helped Roy and me build skateboards back before they were popular. He was a good man. My condolences to the family.
