DENNIS PERMENTER Obituary

Olive Branch - Dennis Edgar Permenter Jr., 40, of passed away August 1, 2010, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., on Thursday, August 5, at Collierville Funeral Home in Collierville, TN. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. at the Ward Family plot in Fairview Cemetery, Dyersburg, Tennessee. The family will receive friends from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, August 4, at Collierville Funeral Home. Dent was born in Clarksville, TN on March 14, 1970, and died on August 1, 2010, after battling a vicious cancer that unexpectedly overwhelmed him at the age of 40. He was a graduate of University of Memphis, where he earned an undergraduate degree and a MBA from Dowling University in New York. Dent began his lifelong career at Federal Express at age 19 while attending college, faithfully serving for the next 21 years in many different departments, never missing a day of work until his final illness made it impossible to continue. A co-worker aptly described Dent as a “shiny face in a sea of employees.” He loved his work and his Fed-Ex family. His father, Dennis E. Permenter, all of his grandparents, and his uncle, Robert William “Dusty” Ward Jr., preceded Dent. Survivors include his mother, Jill Morris and husband, Keith, his brother Brian Morris, a host of cousins, and his aunts and uncles, Loretta Williams and husband Stephen, Kay Cooper and husband Jere, Carolyn Finley and husband Gerald, Melanie Ward, and Vicki Ward Hearne and husband Lake, and his great-aunts, Jettie Pritchett and Billie Joyce Permenter. He also leaves behind his adopted family, Eva and Richard Jeu, their daughters, Lauren and Kelly, and grandmother, Po Che Lam. Dent traveled the world for both work and leisure, visiting a host of locales on four continents. Dent’s love of music is reflected by his extraordinary collection of compact discs, vinyl, books and videos which he avidly collected by scouring local outlets, the Internet and collector’s magazines. He also was an ardent reader of fiction, biographies, history, religion and philosophy. His family and friends who dearly loved him will sorely miss Dent’s unassuming manner, dry wit, unwavering individuality and devotion to his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or a charity of the donor’s choice. I just heard about the passing of Dent. We all grew up together in my early childhood in Dyersburg. He used to come play back yard football with us in the Lattawoods field close to his house. He died way too young, and he will be greatly missed.

Dennis was a friend early in my childhood, and he used to play backyard football with us. He was full of life and will be missed and died way too young.

I just heard about Dent. Dent was an old friend from childhood years in Dyersburg. We were in pre-school together and would have the best time playing at the Wards house in Lattawoods. I have not seen or talked to Dent in many years. In reflecting back at my childhood in Dyersburg, I can say that he was a great friend. In fact, I remember my Mom saying that we were inseperable in pre-school. My thoughts and prayers go out to Jill and the rest of his family.

I'll never forget when Dennis and David came to Knovxille to see Kent and I...needless to say, the dorm room was crazy.

The pillow remnants thru the entire dorm are a memory of Dennis I will never forget.

To the family my sincere condolences...I'm a childhood freind from school. Dennis and I would frequent his Dads place and ride horses and enjoy his farm. I have many great memories and wish I'd kept in touch in his later years.

Jill, reading this page has helped me get to know Dent a little better. Thank you for sharing this with us. Our love and prayers are with you until we can give you a big hug. Know that we are here for you in the days ahead. Be comforted in the knowledge that though Dent's life was way too short, it sounds like he lived it to the fullest and touched many people. And that his suffering has ended as he is in his eternal home now with no pain. Love you, Dick and Bev
