THOMAS CLAYBROOK Obituary

Thomas Wallace Claybrook “Tom”, 64, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 18, 2015. Tom was born in Trenton, TN on August 26, 1950, the son of Fay Summar Claybrook and Thomas Henry Claybrook. He graduated from the University of Tennessee at Martin and moved to Memphis after graduation. He began his career at Building Plastics, Inc. where he spent 33 wonderful years. He was a lifelong member of Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal Church where he served for a number of years as Head Usher, a member of the Vestry, and a longtime member of the Crossmen Cooking Team. He enjoyed all kinds of exercise, whether playing tennis, biking, running, or swimming almost every day. He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed duck hunting and trout fishing with his family and friends. Tom loved life and was a real people person who never met a stranger. He made and kept friends from childhood, college, and business. He loved good food, was a big fan of the Memphis Grizzlies, and was an enthusiast for the city of Memphis. He was a wonderful husband, devoted father, proud grandfather, and maintained utmost integrity in his personal life as well as his business life. He is survived by the love of his life, Beth, his wife of 34 years, his son, Carson and his wife, Martha, and his granddaughter, Claire. He is also survived by his sister, Tina Smith and her husband, Doug and their children, Carol Anne and Jan. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, January 20 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. A service to celebrate his life will be held Wednesday, January 21 at 11 a.m. at Grace St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. I have had the honor of knowing Tom for almost 20 years, and I have cherished each time we have been together. His love of life through his never-ending smile was absolutely contagious. One smirk, laugh, or grin from Tom would lift up an entire room. Tom was truly a great soul, and I am blessed to have called him a friend. I will seek to honor Tom's memory by emulating his passion and kindness to others.

Sorry to learn of Tommy's passing. I haven't been able to get in touch for some time and hate that I couldn't get together and go over the good times in growing up in Trenton and then reuniting at UTM when I returned from the military. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Tommy was a great friend. JCTB.

I just tonight learned of Tommy's passing. I have been trying to make contact for some time since I knew of his illness. Being from Trenton and growing up with Tommy in school there and later after I returned from the military and went back to school at UTM I again was with Tommy as we roomed together. I am so sorry that I couldn't see him this past year. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

I met Tom while at a trade show back in 03 . Tom always took that special care of his customers. He always needed me, his Marazzi CSR. to find whatever his customers needed so they would be satisfied. We will all miss his love of "the business " Tom, you are all healed ,and I'm sure smiling down at all of your family and friends. My heart goes out to the family, and all of the people who worked with him ... Tom, you will be missed ..

I met Tom as a young man starting in the tile business back in 1990, and I had many opportunities to work with him over the years. It didn't matter what the pressing business was at the moment, he always wanted to know how you were doing and how your family was. He was a true gentleman in a world that is sorely lacking in them. I will miss him.
