FRANCIS MOORE Obituary

FRANCIS GENE MOORE, 67, son of the late Lloyd Malcolm and Frances Elizabeth Moore, completed his heavenly journey September 21, 2014, after a brief battle with ALS, “Gene” AKA “Dee Dah” to his family was a loving and faithful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and uncle. He leaves his wife of 37 years, Patricia “Pat” Carman Moore, his daughter, April Elizabeth (Brian) Bennard, his grandchildren, Morgan Taylor, Jacob Cole and Sara Elizabeth Bennard of Madisonville, TN, brother L.G. “Gary” (Marlene) Moore of Munford, TN, Glyn Ross (Randie) Moore of Arlington, TN, and Wilson Grayson Moore of Hardy, AR. He also leaves his mother-in-law, Eula Carman, his sister-in-law, Vicki (Tommy) Loden, and brother-in-law, Jimmy (Martha) Carman all of Memphis plus a host of nieces and nephews. He was born in Memphis, and was a 1965 graduate of Humes High School and computer technical schools. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy, training at Millington, TN. He became a parachute rigger in Lakehurst, NJ. After service to his country he became a route-salesman for Mrs. Weaver’s food. He decided to further his education and studied computer technology. His first IT position was at Malone and Hyde and then Cook Industries. Cook Industries’ IT department was acquired by Federal Express and he was privileged to begin his permanent career with FedEx where he continued working until his retirement in November 2013, after 34 years. During his tenure he was responsible for implementing computer programs, some of which are still in use today. At an early age Gene had the passion to become an airplane pilot. His dreams were dashed when an optometrist told him he would need glasses for the rest of his life. Even though he could not fly for the military or commercially, he had the opportunity to learn to fly - completing his privte pilot, multi-engine, IFR, and commercial pilot ratings. His position with FedEx enabled him to be stationed at the Corporate Aviation department. At that time the department had a program known as “part time pilots” in which he was given the “dream” of a lifetime. He happily donated many hours to flying passengers and AOGs no matter the time of day he was called upon to fly. His computer skills were utilized at “Corporate Aviation” where he was close to his lifelong passion of flying. During the 1990’s he became a participant in the part-time pilot program at Corporate Aviation which enabled him to volunteer his time to fly in a co-pilot capacity in the Citation jets - 3FE, 6FE, and 7FE. His auto license plate cover said it all “I’d Rather Be Flying.” The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2014 at Memphis Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens, 3700 N. Germantown Road, Bartlett, TN. Donations may be made to West Clinic Wings Foundation or ALS Association. Dearest Aunt Pat and family,
Lisa and I were saddened to hear of Uncle Gene's passing. The world was a better place with him in it. I will always be grateful for his help with getting a job at Fed Ex. and was always proud(and maybe a little envious)of his pilot status. As we struggle for the right words to give you support, perhaps NUMBERS 6:24 may provide some comfort "The Lord Bless thee, and keep thee: The Lord make His face shine upon thee, and be gracious unto thee: The Lord lift up His countenance upon thee, and give thee peace....You are in our thoughts and prayers
Love always,
Skeet, Lisa, Anthony & Jessica

I have so many wonderful memories of Gene while living across the street from him and Pat in Cordova for eight years. The ones that hold a special place in my heart are when my son, Andrew, was young and we spent summer evenings with Gene and Pat, sitting outside in front of our houses, drawing pictures on the street, and throwing things in the air to make the bats swoop down. One of my favorite memories is of Gene teaching Andrew to ride a bike--Gene running alongside him, up and down the cove, making sure Andrew didn't fall. Gene was so good with Andrew--always teaching and entertaining him.
Though we moved away and my son is grown, Mr. Gene has always been our friend and will forever be in our hearts. I send my deepest sympathy and prayers to Pat and the entire family, and hope that they find comfort in knowing we were truly blessed to have known Gene.

I knew Gene through flying with him at the FedEx Corporate aviation flight department , we flew many fine trips together and Gene was a fine man and a great pilot in the jet. Most memorable trip with Gene was flying to Pennsylvania and we had enough time between the trip to go visit a large train museum hosted by the State of Pennsylvania , Gene really knew his trains and he was able to recite all the various models that were on display !
I last saw Gene sometime in 2013 at his job and we visited for a while reminiscing about our flight trips ........ God bless you Gene Moore , may your Family be comforted in knowing that you are in a better place but you are sorely missed by all of us
