Ramona Williams Obituary

Ramona Haney Williams

Collierville, TN

Ramona Haney Williams, 58 of Collierville, passed away peacefully and entered eternal life with the Lord on March 6, 2016, after a courageous battle with cancer Ramona was born on October 15, 1957 in Memphis, Tennessee and was preceded in death by her father, William Day Haney. She is survived by her daughter Nicole (Steven) Price; her mother Carolyn Pillow and step-father Jim Pillow; one sister, Diane Haney; three brothers; Wallace (Lu) Haney, Kendall Haney, and Stacy Haney; two grandchildren, Harper Price and Kason Price; niece Alex Haney and two nephews, Brian Haney and Brandon Haney.

Ramona earned a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing from the University of Memphis and had a successful 28 year career at FedEx, where she was a Program Manager and later a Senior Technical Analyst. She loved sports, was an avid University of Memphis Tiger fan, and regularly attended Tiger football and basketball games. She enjoyed golf and spent time at national tournaments, where she reveled in the excitement of the game. Ramona played basketball and softball and ran track in high school and continued to play softball in her early adult years. In addition to sports, Ramona especially loved to spend time with her daughter and her beloved grandchildren Harper and Kason, who brought much joy and happiness to her life. She remained in contact with many of the friends that she grew up with in the neighborhood surrounding Charjean Baptist Church, where she was a member for several years.

During her illness, Ramona trusted in her Christian faith and set a true example of courage and dignity. She was a devoted mother, daughter and sister who held her family close and worried about them as she faced her challenges with cancer. Ramona was a loyal friend who always had a smile to share and a kind word to offer. The many relatives and friends who supported Ramona during her illness are a testament to the wonderful person she was and we are lucky to have been able to share this life with her. Heaven gained another angel and Ramona will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, March 9 from 10:30-12 p.m. with the service starting at noon at Memphis Funeral Home, 5599 Poplar Ave. The burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery followed by a reception back at the funeral home.

I knew Ramona thru the FedEx sales conferences over the years - always enjoyed seeing her and her pretty smile. Ironically in our office is an old poster from Tech Sevices and she is in the midst of group. I pass by it frequently, today I moved it into my office. So very sorry..

My heart goes out to the Haney family and the loss of Ramona. I know it has been difficult times for her and I know God has brought one of his angels home. Ramona was my very first crush and girlfriend 48 years ago and at Airways. She was the sweetest soul and I remember her like it was yesterday. I am so sorry I could not make the funeral. What a courage battle she fought and now she has won her peace. my sympathy to Nicole, her mom, brothers, sisters-in law, Sharon, all her friends and loved ones, of which there were so many because to now Ramona was to be her friend. She could light up a room with that smile. And always asked how you were doing, no matter what was going on with her. She loved her grandkids and know she will be forever watching over them.

This is how I remember Ramona Haney Williams. When we were kids at Airways Jr. High School she seemed to be shy and very quiet spoken in those days. I remember teachers asking her to speak up so the whole class could hear her when they had called on her to answer a question. I don't remember her having a temper or ever raising her voice in anger in my presence. As a matter of fact, she was the Pollyanna in our group. Yes, that's right. She would be the one that would make lemonade when we were given lemons. She always carried herself as a lady all the time I knew her. If any of our student body walked in His grace it would have been her. I don't mean that she was always a saint but if any of us were, it was her. I don't know much about her adult life, but knowing her and her family from those days, she would have had to have been a good soul.
She was a cheerleader at Airways and involved in all aspects of our school from clubs to academics. In our hearts she left an incredibly wonderful impression on all of us. The entire Haney family was an integral part of our neighborhood, both in life and in spiritual things they were always there for us. I personally could never thank them enough for all the things their entire family did for us. Ramona will be missed by us all. She was a very kind and sweet soul and I am glad that she passed my way and left a little bit of the sweetness that was her life was her gift to us all. She will be missed.

Ramona was a sweet and beautiful person. She was like a second mom to my daughter, Aubrey, when we lived in Collierville during the years Aubrey and Nicole were in middle school. Nicole, you know we love you. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers during this time.
