Irene Sinanis Obituary

Irene M. Sinanis
Irene Lesko Sinanis, a lifelong resident of Bridgeport and Trumbull, passed away at her home on May 17, 2017 with her caring children and family friend standing by. She was the widow of John Sinanis.
Irene was born in Bridgeport to the late Stephen and Mary (Dulin) Lesko. She graduated from St. John Nepomucene Commercial and Harding High School. Irene was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Class of 1947, Dental Hygiene program. She had been a member and past president of the CT Dental Hygienists Association and practiced for 50 years in the Bridgeport area. Irene volunteered her services as a dental hygienist to the Special Olympics.
Irene was a lifelong parishioner of St. John Nepomucene and Holy Name of Jesus parishes and a member of their respective Ladies' Guilds. She was past president of Wreath 1 Slovak Catholic Sokols participating her whole life in the organization by attending conventions, membership on committees and judging track and field events for the Sokols athletic competitions. She will be remembered for collecting soda tabs from all of her friends for the Ronald McDonald House and collecting yarn for the Linus Project. She had also volunteered her time to transport cancer patients for their treatments.
Irene loved playing cards with long time friends who continued to visit over the years. Her life was enriched by her two granddaughters, Sara and Stephanie. She will be remembered for her robust personality and big smile
Survivors include daughter, Judy Nist and her husband, Bob, of Rhode Island; son, Jay Sinanis of Trumbull; two granddaughters, Sara Nist of California and Stephanie Nist of Massachusetts; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her daughter, Denise Sinanis.
Friends are invited to attend the funeral on Wednesday, May 24, 2017 at 9:45 am at the Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street, Stratford and at 10:30 am at Holy Name of Jesus Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at St. John Cemetery, Stratford. Friends may call on Tuesday from 4 to 7 pm. Keeping with Irene's spirit of charity to many organizations, memorial contributions to the charity of one's choice would be appreciated. Dear Judy and Jay,
I worked for years with your Mom at Dr. Habansky's office where she worked as one of our Hygienists. She was a
great lady. I always enjoyed her company.
