Carl Terwilliger Obituary

Carl Jeffery Terwilliger, 62, of River Falls, Wis., formerly of DeKalb, Ill., passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Zihuatanejo, Mexico.
Born Sept. 2, 1944, in DeKalb, he was the son of G. Covell and Marguerite R. (Hill) Terwilliger. A 1962 graduate of DeKalb High School, Carl attended Elgin Community College and Southern Illinois University.
Carl was a musician, composer, inventor and master bridge player. His many activities took him to the Gathering over the years, and for several years he took yearly trips to the peaceful beaches near Zihuatanejo. While living in River Falls, he was an Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor, worked as a drug-abuse counselor and attended Peace and Freedom meetings.
Carl loved to water-ski and feed the birds and chipmunks at the family cabin in northern Wisconsin. For his whole life, Carl played and wrote music. He had just finished recording a full album of his original songs with vocals and guitar; a number of his friends in music helped him with the project.
Affectionately known as "Loon" to his many, many friends, Carl will be missed for his gentle, caring presence. In particular, Cathy Cliffe, whom he has known for many years, was the key help to him as he coped with his recent illness.
He is survived by his mother, Marguerite Terwilliger of Eau Claire, Wis.; two brothers, Steve (Ellen) Terwilliger of Eau Claire and Paul (Marcia) Terwilliger of San Marcos, Calif.; and several nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his father, Covell.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 7, at Anderson Funeral Home Ltd. in DeKalb. Cremation will follow at the Anderson Funeral Home Ltd. Crematory. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. A memorial celebration will be held at a later date in River Falls.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established for Carl Jeffery Terwilliger in care of Anderson Funeral Home Ltd., P.O. Box 605, 2011 S. Fourth St., DeKalb, IL 60115.

Just as we hope to soon rediscover old friendships at our upcoming Class of '62 reunion, we find another of our dear friends gone... We are so sorry to hear of his passing. His family and closest friends will surely miss him deeply, as will those of us who share "old" memories of our early days together in DeKalb. My sincere condolences.
