Dixie Gill

Dixie Jane Dawson Gill, 85, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2005 at Parkwood Assisted Living facility. She was born July 10, 1920 in Greene County, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Ed and Sarah Dawson. She was a member of the Unity Free Will Baptist Church and enjoyed her time with the Sunshine Club at the church. She was preceded in death by her husband James Edward ÒBillÓ Gill. She is survived by three sons, Bill Gill and wife, Kay, of Raleigh, Jimmy Gill and wife, Brenda, of Wilson, Joe Gill and wife, Lisa, of Elizabeth City; daughter, Sarah Hawley of Wilson; sisters, Leeuna Harrison of Elm City, and Esther Edmondson of Wilson; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held Friday 11 a.m., in the chapel of Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim McFatter officiating. Burial will follow. The family will receive friends Thursday at Thomas-Yelverton Funeral Home from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m., and other times at 2518 Downing Street.
