Mr. Chaplin...I just found this.I enjoyed the time I spent with you. Paying rent was always fun because I knew I could catch you in the garage and share a bud or two. You and Mrs. Chaplin were always very kind to me. Until we meet again my friend....GOD BLESS YOU AND MRS CHAPLIN.

Very sorry to hear of Pat's death. He helped us tremendously during a union organizing campaign in 1975 at Infomag, a Santa Barbara electronics plant. We had big dreams of organizing the entire Santa Barbara Valley electronics industry back then. What I remember best is Pat's nightly Old Milwaukee beer, and allowing us “youngsters” to determine the plant organizing strategy as we saw best, with his advice and experience as a guide. He never controlled. I do remember him saying “keep your eye on the ball” when management tried to confuse the issues during the campaign. We lost the election in a close vote, had it overturned by the NLRB due to management unfair labor practices, and then that decision was somehow later reversed. So we ended up losing. At our request, Pat brought Jim Matles to the plant to give a gate talk. Jim was verbally harassed by company management and later that night he suffered a heart attack and died. What a tragic loss. For me, this union organizing campaign in 1975 was one of my life's great learning experiences that I will never forget.
