James Lawrence Obituary

James Lawrence WAKEFIELD, R.I.- James Lawrence, of Wakefield, R.I., passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 28, 2013. He was born in Kingston on April 29, 1943. He graduated from Kingston High School (class of 1961), attended C.W. Post College and graduated from SUNY New Paltz and Binghamton University: The State University of New York. For family, friends and those who followed his online journal at JimsJournal.com, it should come as no surprise that he passed while living life to the fullest as he participated in his first triathlon. Jim was an avid reader, writer, humorist and runner who was employed by IBM. But most importantly he was a loving and loved husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He was the son of the late Edith and Ted Lawrence; husband of Nancy Dreier; father of Adam Lawrence (Leah Kramnick) of N.Y.C., Gillian Dreier Lawrence and Jeremy Dreier Lawrence of Wakefield, R.I.; grandfather of two smiling grandchildren, Sam and Milo Lawrence Kramnick of N.Y.C.; and brother of Charles Lawrence (Donna) of Lake Katrine; as well as uncle of many nieces and nephews. His family has asked that memorial donations be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Ride to Cure Diabetes in honor of his brother, nephew, and niece who will miss him greatly but will carry on the Lawrence family tradition of taking on challenges by cycling through Death Valley. Memorial donations can be made to JDRF and mailed to Jim's brother Charlie Lawrence, 39 Frederick Drive, Lake Katrine, N.Y., 12449. A private celebration of Jim's life will be held by family and friends.

My deepest sympathy for your loss. I was at the trialthon and I may not even be a family or friend but I wanted to give my condolences. I read Jim's journal and he had an amazing spirit through his journal. I hope your family will find comfort knowing his spirit lives on.

Jim, I'll miss you - you were a bright light, a smiling face, a great coworker and dependable wisecracker. You made my job fun, and that was an accomplishment. I always admired your commitment to fitness. You always said good, happy things about your family, your activities, and life in general. Your gentle and optimistic spirit will live on in those of us who were fortunate enough to know you.
