I worked with Dr. Burke back in the late 80s-early 90s when doctors still treated their own patient that were admitted to the hospital. He was one of the nicest and easiest to work with! Always had a smile on his face! I have not been able to work for years and was looking for a lume disease doctor. Thought of him and BAM! He has been gone for 11 years! May God have you on his arms!

Hard to believe it has been NINE years since we lost Bernie at only age 57! Long before his MD career, h,e and I were best friends in Minersville High, spent a large part of our youth together, and both were quite mischievous to say the least. As to school, we battled to be # 1 academically, mostly all "A"s....alas, one or 2 "B"s, we finished #2 and #3! (; SO we shared the duties of "salutatorian", and instead of a "speech", or just one of us speaking, we agreed to both introduce our classmates from the podium. We were roommates a short time at Penn State before Bernie chose a separate course of action. I miss my old friend, and as we approach our 50 year class reunion (Minersville Cass of 1971), I promise you he will be remembered and honored! JIM DROSKINIS, Lt Col (Ret), US Army

Dr. Burke was the family physician for my family for many years. He was always caring and gentle in his practice. He truly cared about his patients. When my husband was diagnosed with Lyme Disease, Dr. Burke was the only doctor who took all of his symptoms seriously and gave my husband the gift of healing. He was a wonderful person and physician who will be greatly missed.

Bernie Burke and I were best friends since 1st Grade, at Fourth Street Elementary School, (now a library) only a few blocks from his home in Minersville, PA. We both had a speaking role and introduced the MHS graduating class of 1971. Ahh, and we went as idealistic young guys to the great land of Oz...Penn State University...and even were room-mates for a short time. So sad to hear this news. Never knew "Dr Steve" as he was always Bernie to us. A lot of us from Minersville lost touch with Dr. Burke after MHS, and that is a shame! Bernie was a great guy back in the day, and it warms my heart to hear that he touched so many lives as "Dr Steve" I read most all entries here. Back in the 60s, he drove his Dad's 1963 Blue Chevy and I had my Mom's 1963 Blue Corvair¦what great memories!!! (Ck the MHS 1971 yearbook) There are so many fun stories I could share; always a great sense of humor, and a great guy. I will miss my old friend...Bernie. See you again, some day, Dr Steve, when we meet again on the other side!~~.

Dr Burke saved my life when he began treating me for Lyme Disease and other tick bourne diseases. I was in bad shape when I went to him for treatment. He was a very thorough doctor. We thank God for the gift of Dr. Steve Burke. He really heard our daughter as she reported systemic, bizarre arthritic symptoms and treated her until she was completely well many months later. No one has listened to her as did Dr. Burke. We are deeply appreciative of his medical talents and gifts. We extend our deepest sympathy to his wife, children and extended family. Today I received the very sad and shocking news about Dr. Burke's passing. He was a unique and brilliant man and a gifted diagnostician. He saved my dear friend Laura and her little boy Ryan, and he also helped my husband and I see that we were not crazy - that we had indeed been afflicted by the scourge of Lyme disease, as he had been as well.

We traveled from Orange county, NY to be treated by him. And while it always made for a long (and often entertaining) day, we don't regret a single moment. Our three visits changed the course of our treatment and understanding of our malaise. To this day our experiences with Dr. Burke affect how we interact with our current physicians. He opened our eyes and taught us much.

We send our most sincere, deep sympathies to his children and family. Please know that all of us who have been touched by your father will never forget him and will always be grateful for having known him. He truly had a heart of gold. Rest in peace, Doctor.

Dr. Steven Burke was truly a gift to his profession. After so many doctors dismissed my symptoms because tests were inconclusive, it was Dr. Burke who put me on the road to recovery. Dr. Burke was not only kind and caring, but he was the most gifted doctor I had ever met. No other doctor will ever fill his shoes.
He often spoke of his children, and was so proud of them. I'm so sorry for yor loss. Your father was a great man who touched the lives of many and will be missed by all.

How can it be? Our hearts are heavy, yet full, as we think back over the last ten years of knowing Dr. Burke. Of all the doctors we have visited, he alone sat patiently and waited while we formed our thoughts and struggled to make words that would make sense of what we were experiencing. And then he explained what it was that was causing us this turmoil. He worked hard to bring us better health and sometimes he received very little money in return. We paid our bills, spread the word of his skills to others afflicted with uncertain ailments, and then we prayed. Yes, we took the time to hug Dr. Burke and to thank Our Creator for this doctor who was helping us to feel better and to know that we were not mentally ill or emotionally unsound. When we went for a visit with this good doctor we waited, and waited, and waited. It is cute that now he has to wait to see us in God's great glorious heaven. Isn't life amazing and wonderful. We hurt with sadness for those who love him and pinfully miss him as we do, but Dr. Burke understood that our works cannot get us into heaven. He expressed the belief that we are saved by the blood of the crucified
Christ. ALL of the sins of we believers, past, present and future sins, are paid for by that blood and Dr. Burke was a sinner, saved by grace. We'll see him again. Bruce and Wilma Johnstone Christiana, PA

Dr. B. Steven Burke was my physician and friend for 11 years. His obituary leaves out many things—that he was a Navy Seal, a brilliant immunologist and diagnostician, a Stanford Who's Who for his medical achievements, and the most compassionate and caring physician I have ever known.
Pat, my heart goes out to you for your loss. May God bless you and support you as you deal with your grief, and may he be blessed eternally for his wonderful doctoring.

To the family of Dr. Burke and Pat: We are indescribibly saddened by the loss of Steve Burke--a passionate Lyme warrior and teacher. In spite of his own battle with Lyme disease, he treated his patients with compassion and caring. His loss leaves a huge hole in our hearts.
