George Barnhart Obituary

George H. Barnhart, Jr. of West Chester A great man passed away on Sunday, August 10, 2014. George H. Barnhart, Jr., of West Chester, formerly of Oreland, peacefully joined his wife Gloria, at 4:45 p.m. George died at his daughter's home following an extended illness. He was in the company of family and friends that he loved and being cared for by Neighborhood Hospice. George had just returned from his final visit to the Jersey shore, an adventure started 80 years ago with his first visit to Ocean Gate. Susan Barnhart Weise, Brian Burlingame, and Brian's sister Kathleen, George's grandsons Ryan, Eric and Brandon, two of the boys friends, Mark Barnhart and two of George's sisters Dorothy and Barbara were all in Ocean City, N.J. for a spectacular "house on the beach" vacation week. The gorgeous weather was provided by George. This was George's final wish; his family, hospice, and his brother firefighters of Ocean City made this visit to George's beloved Jersey shore possible. George had a great time just as he had planned & wanted. George Barnhart was the husband of Gloria Tippett Barnhart who preceded him in death. He was born 83 years ago in Philadelphia, the son of the late George H. Barnhart and the late Dorothy Hardler Barnhart. George was a proud graduate of North Catholic High School, Philadelphia and served his country with honor in Korea. George was a remarkable 65 year volunteer of the La Mott Fire Company of Cheltenham Twp. where he was their treasurer and Deputy Chief within the department. George was the embodiment of dedication and the heart and soul of this company. In addition to being a life member of the firefighters he was also the treasurer of the Oreland Swim Club for 20 years. He enjoyed all things outdoors, from hunting to camping and many other activities. He is survived by his daughter, Susan B. Weise (Brian Burlingame) of West Chester, son, Mark H. Barnhart of Philadelphia, grandchildren, Ryan, Eric and Brendon Weise, and sisters, Dorothy Ward of Promised Land, Barbara Monahan of Bristol, and Rosemarie Kohles of Marrero, La. He was preceded in death by sister, Catherine Pileggi of Willow Grove. Family and friends are invited between 5 to 8 p.m., Friday August 15, 2014, at the DellaVecchia, Reilly, Smith & Boyd Funeral Home, 410 North Church Street, West Chester, PA 19380, 610-696-1181, www. Our love, prayers, and sympathies go out to the entire Barnhart family. George was a true firefighter and good man to his family and friends. Our families were very close many years ago in the days of the 4th of July parades in Glenside with the LaMott Fire Company; and the men of the families remained close after all these years. Rest in Peace, George, and thank you for the many years of dedicated service to your family, friends, and community.
