POQUOSON - Charles "Fred" Waterman, 76, died Feb. 18, 2011, in Poquoson.
He was a reference librarian and professor at Western Washington University in Bellingham, Wash. He proudly served in the United States Army and shot "expert" Marksman. He loved the outdoors and hiked the North Cascades for many years. He was an avid reader and particularly liked books on military history and weaponry. He enjoyed playing chess and working in his woodshop.
Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Lucille and Charles F. Waterman Sr.
He will be missed by his loving wife of 25 years, Joanne; daughter, Kara Hughes and husband, Craig, all of Poquoson; sister, Jeanne Hopkins of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.; sister-in-law, Sandee Guglielmo and husband, Nick of Port Orchard, Wash.; grandchildren, Luke Jones of Bellingham, Wash., and Courtney Jones of Poquoson; nephew, Glenn Hopkins of Austin, Texas; and niece, Christine Krisciunas of Ohio.
A memorial service, with military honors, for the scattering of his ashes will take place at a later date, in Chelsea Gardens, at Williamsburg Memorial Park, Williamsburg. To: Jeanne Hopkins,

Jeanne, you may not remember me, but we lived next door to you, on Shady Drive, when we were kids. I always remember Fred as a studious, well spoken man with a great sense of humor that he was not afraid to exhibit. Please accept my condolences and wishes for acceptance of this life cycle that has hit so close to you.
