Edward MATHENY Obituary
A longtime resident of Poquoson, Ed was a Vietnam veteran, who served in the U.S. Air Force and worked at Langley Air Force Base as a Facilities Maintenance Chief.
He was preceded in death by parents, Morton E. and Marie Hudgins Matheny; a brother, Michael Conway Matheny; and father-in-law, Harten Martin.
Ed is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Cynthia Jane Matheny; four beautiful daughters, Jennifer Eckstrom and husband, Steve of Staunton, Joella Matheny of Charlottesville, Jacqueline Clark and husband, Justin of Poquoson, and Janelle Matheny of Poquoson; three precious grandchildren, Jadynn Jackson, Mia Eckstrom, and Will Eckstrom; two brothers, Morton E. Matheny Jr. of Pittsboro, N.C., and Frederic R. Matheny of Elijay, Ga.; a sister, Awilda Matheny of Poquoson; a mother-in-law, Florence Martin of Poquoson; and many other loved ones, including best friend, Robert Foster of Yorktown, who faithfully kept Ed company.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, at Claytor Rollins Funeral Home in Poquoson, and at other times at the family home. A memorial service, with military honors, will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 5, at the funeral home, by Pastor John Pouchot. Inurnment will be private at a later date.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Poquoson Rescue Squad, 830 Poquoson Ave., or Poquoson Baptist Church, 283 Wythe Creek Road, both of Poquoson, VA 23662.
Ed was a devoted and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

I don't know if you remember us, parents of Tracy Brown. We are so sorry to hear of Ed leaving us. We only met him a few times but he was one of those people that came into our life briefly but was never forgotten!

Janelle and I have been friend's since Middle School. The memories that I have of Ed are endless and always bring a smile to my face. You were always treated as one of the kids when you were at their home. My favorite memories include painting the garage door (no matter how bad I was at that), playing pool, getting in trouble with Janelle for talking to the boys next door...and goodnight hugs and kisses! Ed will always be in my heart. He is deeply missed but will never be forgotten. My love and prayers go out to his entire family. God bless!
