Deborah Whitby Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Deborah L. Whitby, 55, passed away on Monday, July 6, 2009.
She is survived by her husband of 30 years, Lee E. Whitby; four daughters, Tahitia, Tamekia, Annaleisa, and Takeshia Whitby; four sons, Chowan Hill, Anthony and Shawn Whitby and Ron Lee Cowles; best friend, Geneva Dinkins; sisters, Diane Hill-Taylor and her husband, Maurice, of Maryland, Estelle Fenwrick and Mary Haskins, both of Virginia; and a host of extended family and friends.
Deborah was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, particularly enjoying nurturing plants, loving her dollhouses and furniture. She was also an avid reader. She was always ready to help others, extending love and care to all who needed it. Deborah and her husband served as foster parents, eventually adopting several children. She kept a fighting spirit in spite of dealing with renal failure for the last 14 years of her life. Deborah will remain in the hearts of her family and friends because of her legacy of love.
The family will receive friends at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 11, at Nelsen Funeral Home, 3785 Strawberry Plains Rd., Williamsburg. A memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. in the Nelsen Funeral Home Chapel. Online condolences may be registered at www.nelsencares.com. Mrs. Whitby was friends with my mother, Carolyn. We would often stop by to say hello and if I did not have my two boys with me she would always fuss at us for not bringing them. She truly loved children. Mrs. Whitby loved her family and I know she will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
