Nathaniel SPELLER Obituary

NEWPORT NEWS - Nathaniel "Blue" Speller was born to the late Buck and Neva Speller on Feb. 24, 1940, and departed this life on Nov. 12, 2011, at Hadley Memorial Hospital, Washington, D.C.
He joined Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Scotland Neck, N.C., at an early age, later changing his membership to Messiah Baptist Church, Newport News. He was educated in Halifax County Public Schools. He retired from Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company after 30 years of service.
He leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Mamie Speller; three daughters, Terri Speller-Dunlap (William), Lisa Speller and Natiyah Speller; two sons, Tracy Speller and Nathaniel Speller Jr.; seven grandchildren, Jayce Moore, Sheikh Graves, Sydney Dunlap, LaKai Dunlap, Tatyana Speller, Teko Dunlap and Tracy Speller Jr.; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Milton Speller, three sisters, Gwendolyn Person, Geneva Dancey (Thurman), Lucille Speller; eight sisters-in-law; six brothers-in-law; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
A funeral service will be held at 1p.m. Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at Zion Baptist Church, Newport News. Interment will follow in Hampton Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be from 1 to 7p.m. Friday at the funeral home and two hours prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Family and friends are asked to assemble at the residence by noon on Saturday for the procession to the church.

As long as I can remember Blue was a free spirited, kindhearted, happy go lucky man. Nothing could shake ole Blue. He was loved by all. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. I know it's hard but hold on to his legacy. Blue lived his life.....his way. I have fund memories of him. I love you all.
