Amanda HOLLEY Obituary

WILLIAMSBURG - Amanda Jo Holley, 49, died on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Sentara Hospital in Williamsburg, after a prolonged fight with cancer. In death, as in life, she was surrounded by many loved ones in body and spirit.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory her parents, Doris Dey of Newport News and Charles Shipp of Culpepper, Va.; an aunt, Nancy Ellett; one brother, Mark W. Shipp; a son, Mark Joseph Shipp; daughter of her heart, Veronique Miller; and a beloved granddaughter, Elizabeth Miller-Shipp; and countless friends.
Amanda's greatest accomplishment and passion was her active membership in a 12-step program for over 20 years, where she touched many lives. She loved to be of service in her personal and professional life.
A memorial service to celebrate Amanda's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Warwick United Church of Christ, 10 Mantoaka Lane in Newport News.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the loving friends who supported Amanda throughout her illness.

The first time I visited Amanda at her home she told me "You don't even know who your higher power is yet". I was a backslidden, Pentecostal, minister with about one year clean from ten years of living a prodigal lifstyle in the streets, jails, and drugs. I was appauled at that, but gave no reply.
Through the love, trust, and belief that Amanda expressed toward me, I am well on the way to growing deeper, stronger, and becomming more aware of the man that I was called to be. I will be forever grateful for the breif intersection that brought our worlds together.

Seems like you have been in my life forever. We have only been good friends for about seven years. I always felt like our friendship was very unique , but that was a gift you had. You made all your friendships unique.
It was an amazing power I felt when I visited you sitting in your room with dozens of people who loved you so much. Ive never experenced love like that in action before. Thank you for being such an example in recovery. I'm going to miss all the questions you always asked me about my personal life.
Love always

I knew Amanda for several years. She was a survivor with a sparkling spirit and a huge heart. She loved her son, Mark Joseph, and her granddaughter Elizabeth more than anything. She was always honest, open and willing to learn about herself and others. I feel honored to have known her.

Although Amanda only worked for Goodwill for a short period of time, she proved to be a valuable employee. Her ability to work as an effective member of the team, her maturity and the skills she demonstrated everyday enhanced our operation. My thoughts and prayers are with family and friends as you experience this great loss.

How am suppose to live without you, when I've been loving you so long? Wom, I miss you so much. All the times, our kids, road trips, singing, seeing the fellowship grow so much, death of loved ones, silly movies, great food, fall outs, make ups, illness, celebrations, the list goes on and one. I'll see you on the other side. Snarf
