There have been many a time in my training that I prayed that you would get well so that we could run a marathon together. I remember seeing you and Carole at the Shamrock event in 2008 and as I stopped to talk to you and Carole, you had mentioned that your daughter had finished her first half marathon and how proud you were of her. I still have the gift you gave to me for my 50th birthday of the running figure, and that gift still stands on my desk at work today. I know I won’t get to run with you in person, but I am training for and dedicating my next marathon to you. I know that you will be there with me in spirit every step of the way. You are one phenomenal person and you will truly be missed my friend.

My Dearest James; 13 1/2 years I have spent loving you. We traveled to so many exciting places; had a great time camping with John and Brenda; boating with our friends in Virginia Beach, hiking to the top of the mountain and wondering how in the world I am going to get down, biking on the board walk and through parks, dancing to our favorite songs. I will miss those blue eyes and smile and those private talks and plans we had made for one day. (The white chapel in Las Vegas was pretty close). Even though we are in different worlds now, my love for you has no ending. I gave my heart to you to put with yours years ago and there it will stay until we are together again. So my darling, I will let you go, so you can run that last Marathon to the Golden Gates of Heaven.

Love Forever, Carole

James used to stay in my garage apartment when he would run the Shamrock Marathon and other marathons. Carole and I would go to the end of the street and cheer him on and think that he was "nuts" putting himself through the torture of it all. He was so proud when he would finish and so were all of his friends and family. What a trooper and good man. I fondly remember him pulling into my street with his top down on a balmy summer or spring night with Carole in his red convertible. He helped me buy my new, super sonic bike, when he and Carole where in the market for their new ones. To this day I cannot make the extra equipment work without his help. I was stunned to hear of his passing and the heavens are waiting for this shiny star to arrive. Sande McLaughlin, GNMS, ret.

James was a sheer joy to know and a genuine gentleman of all gentlelmen! I was fortunate to have met him at Great Neck Middle School and have him in attended at our daughter's wedding seven years ago ! He will be remembered with great love and fondness! The only comfort we can all take is knowing that he is now cradled in the arms of Jesus! Pamela + Rick Schlegel
