Janet EVERDING Obituary

HUDGINS - Janet Whitney Everding, 88, passed away on Jan. 24, 2011, at her home in Hudgins, Va.
Janie, as she was known by friends, was born in Tulsa, Okla., on January 21, 1923. She lived in Larchmont, N.Y., Chicago, Ill., and then came to Mathews, Va., in the early 1940's with her parents and sister to live there for the rest of her life.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Everding Sr.; her daughter, Holly Everding Ezell of Springfield, Ill.; her parents, Captain and Mrs. Richard T. Whitney of Redart, Va.; her sister, Barbara W. Morgan; and beloved adopted son and friend, Bruce Layton.
She is survived by her daughter, Sheldon E. Starr (Amos) of Okmulgee, Okla.; her son, Robert E. Everding Jr. (Patricia) of Berkley, W.Va.; her grandchildren, Theodore, Seth, and Carl Cypert of Okmulgee, Okla., and Elana Everding of Berkley, W.Va.; her niece, Judith Morgan Flores of Moon, Va.; several great-grandchildren, great-nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held for her 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, 2011, in the Church of the Nazarene in Hudgins, Va. Immediately following the service there will be a combined celebration of the lives of the two sisters, Janie Everding and Barbara Morgan.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janie's memory to: Animal Care Society, P. O. Box 121, Mathews, VA 23109, Gloucester-Mathews-Middlesex Humane Society, 6620 Jackson Lane, Gloucester, VA 23061 or Mathews Vol. Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 723, Mathews, VA 23109.

Dear Sheldon and family,
I am so sorry for your loss. Janie was such a card, enjoyed a good joke and loved to laugh! I had not seen her in several years. I can imagine her and Barbara together again!! I am praying for you as you go through this most difficult time..
