Margaret RILEE Obituary

HAMPTON - Margaret Baxter Rilee, 88, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 12, 2010, after a short illness. She was born in Lee Hall and was a lifelong Hampton girl.
She was a member of Petsworth Baptist Church in Gloucester and had most recently returned to Memorial Baptist Church in Hampton where her children and most of her grandchildren were baptized. Margaret was a sweet, big hearted Christian woman who everyone loved. She enjoyed entertaining her grandchildren who selected her home to visit over all other relatives. She was a published poet.
Preceding her in rest are her parents, Walter and Lillie Mackey; husband, R. Henry Rilee; grandson, Brandon Albertson; and her first love, Carlton Baxter.
Surviving family members include her children, R. Allen Baxter Sr. and wife, Suzy, and Diane Baxter Stamper and husband, Bill; nine grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and 10 great-great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, 2010, at Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home. A celebration of Margaret's life will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 18, at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park.
Margaret loved her family and friends and took great pride in her children, having once said, "I asked God for a boy and girl and he gave me the best of both". She in turn gave God her best.
Her love lives on in her legacy of compassion and charity to others.
Friends are encouraged to visit www.parklawn-woodfh.com to share memories and words of comfort with the family.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parklawn-Wood Funeral Home, 2551 N. Armistead Avenue, Hampton, VA 23666. View and post condolences on our online guestbook at dailypress.com/guestbooks.

Diane, my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I met your Mom only a couple of times but she always had a smile and a kind word. You shared her beautiful poetry with me and I was able to know her heart by her writings. Comfort, strength and peace to you and your family through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Miss Margaret was one of the first people I met when I joined Petsworth Baptist Church over 15 years ago. I was a new Christian and she was such a wonderful encouragement to me. I will always remember her (and her poetry!) with a big smile and a warm, loving feeling. A very special woman...she loved the Lord and made a difference. I know she will be missed by those who love her. I will be praying for her family,

Dear Allen,

I just learned of your mother's passing via Laura Irby, our former classmate. Our families go back a ways to 1948 when we all moved into to our newly built homes on Chapel St. (Hampton). It is hard to believe that was over 68 years ago. As I remember, your mother was a very sweet and attractive looking lady. On behalf of my sister, Lois, and I, please accept our deepest sympathy.

Your classmate and childhood friend,

Jack Lucas
West Melbourne, FL.

Margaret was a wonderful person. I knew her best at Petsworth Church, in Gloucester. and I was surprised to learn that she was the mother of Diane, who was my cousin Margaret Ferguson's best friend and neighbor. I also grew up in Memorial Baptist Church in Hampton as well as Tabernacle Methodist in Poquoson which is home to me too. Margaret's life was dedicated to GOD. She lived a christian life, and I'm sure that she is happy now in the arm's of JESUS .Time and time alone can heal your broken hearts.I pray that her family will be comforted in this time of sadness.
