When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be:
Joey at the piano,
me with my tamborine and shouting shoes
and Joseph at his drums ministering to the other saints in heaven.
We praise God for the beautiful sentiment that you, Brother Pegram expressed on yesterday in your entry.
What a peace radiates throughout this guest book. God is great and greatly to be praised.
Keep the hope alive because when we get to heaven, Joey will make himself known to us and we will continue where we left off without all the heartaches of this world.
Keep the faith.
love you my brother.

Joey, You are the light of my life. A year has passed and it seems like yesterday. I miss you so much! I know you are in Heaven singing praises to GOD. I understand that GOD needed you in Heaven with him. You have been and will always be my greatest inspiration. I thank GOD for having you in my life, albeit a shorter time than I would have preferred. I can not put into words the happiness and joy you brought into my life. I am deeply saddened that you had to leave me, but I find comfort knowing you are in Heaven and am deeply sorrowed by the fact there are so many people that never got to experience the joy that you brought into my life and all the lives that you touched. There is a hole in my heart that can never be filled. I LOVE YOU and I MISS YOU! and I always will! Rest in Peace my sweet son and hopefully GOD will bless me to be able to see you again!..... Daddy

Larry and I are so grateful for all the messages that you have sent to us. I am still in awe of all the people that touched Joey's life and all of you that touched his. Thank you for all the beautiful cards, flowers, phone calls and "favorite Joey story." All these have kept us going and kept Joey's memory alive. Also, thanks to all of you for the calls and card you sent on his birthday. There are not words that will allow us to express how much your thoughtfulness has meant to me. We certainly hope this is not the last time our paths will cross.

My Little Brother,

I am so sad to see you leave me , but I know you left Our hands to take God's hand so I am relieved somewhat. All I can think of is our time together , you were the brother I always wanted! There is a saying that says ; "Into every life a little rain must fall , and miss the one you love is like a storm, but in due time the storm will pass." I love You!

I went to high school and college with Joey. It hurts me so much that I didn't get to say goodbye to Joey or make amends with him. He had a good heart and was so talented with music. May God rest his soul and bring peace to everyone that mourns. Please know that Joey is in a place that we all know he loves because he lived, ate, and breathe God.

This came as a complete shock to me. I was a schoolmate and chorus partner with Joey. I just found out about this today. I just want the family and friends out there to know that he was truly a rare talent. In school, I could only thinky of Joey as bubbly, full of personality, and a unique booming voice. I will truly miss him.I send my deepest condolences and love to the family of this great human being. "This too shall pass."

I was shocked to see Joey's obituary in the daily paper. As a first year 5th grade teacher at Hidenwood Elementary School, Joey was the most knowledgeable and intellectually gifted student in a class of 24 students. He seemed to know everything and I often allowed him to teach lessons to the class. He was especially knowledgeable about the solar system and music. My prayers remain with his family and ask that God keeps everyone strong and in Faith.

Adrienna,

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Joey will be missed throughout the 2nd Episcopal District. His time spent at Macedonia was very fruitful for our choir. He used his gifts to uplift the Kingdom. He was blessed with your talent and vivacity. I still recall when we wer dormates at ODU. What fun we had developing our minds and talents. Be strong in the Lord! Call me if you're on the Shore.

I am disappointed that I found out about Joey's passing a few days later. I was Joey's classmate in high school. I know how much he loved playing the piano. He was always high in spirits. His laugh and smile I will never forget. Joey, you will be greatly missed.

We met Joey at Bethel when we visited the church. He had such a freedom in his praise to God. Very energetic and unashamed. What a blessing it was for us to see that in a young man. May the Lord continue to comfort and strengthen you in the days to come.

Adrienne & Family,
May you be strengthened by prayers that are offered on your behalf. I first met Joey during a YPD rehearsal when he was about 8 or 10 years old.
He was such an annointed musician and I will miss him during YPD events and our VA annual conference. I'll miss the wide armed hugs that he'd give me whenever and whever he saw me.
I praise and thank God that I had the opportunity to know Joey Howard Pegram.

To the grieving family,

I do too know what the pain feels like to lose a child to a illness. I lost my daughter of thirteen years to Lupus and God at the time showed me some vivid pictures of our life together as I watched her slowly drift away. I'm sure he declared the same to you if you were paying attention. Everthing is done for a reason and He already knows our life story before we do, so don't question God "why" just simply throw your hands up and say "okay Lord if it is your Will then let it be done." I look at my life and think that I now have a personal guardian angel that looks over me and her siblings everyday. I know that it hurts and it will hurt for a long time, but just know that joy do come in the morning. I'm sure almost every encouraging word has been brought to you one way or another by different loved ones, bu know that I will continue to pray your wisdom in the Lord and that you have a better understanding on why things like this happen. Lean on the only one that will help you through this difficult time, the Comforter. I will also pray your strength as the days come and go. Be blessed all the rest of the days of your life.

Often quoted and frequently said,
God knows the number of hairs
On our head.

This has been written;
I believe it to be true.
God knows in advance
What we will go through.

There is no pain
Too hard for God to bear.
Prayer is the lifeline;
Our sorrows He will share.

Joey was a warrior
Who fought a fight to win.
If we remain faithful,
We'll see his countenance again.

Donna,

I am so sorry to hear about Joey. He was one of the sweetest persons who crossed my path. I watched him grow into a very gifted person who used his talents to the fullest--all for the glory of the Lord. I cannot imagine the emptiness that is felt at losing such a beautiful spirit. Please know that I am praying for you and your family.

To Joey's Family-

Joey was a true friend to all of us who are a part of Spirit of Music. He was our M.D.(Musical Director) for the group and whenever he played that keyboard he played with passion and the purest love for God. We were all sad when we heard the news of his passing and Joey is going to be missed (that smile and the laughs and jokes more than anything :) ). On the same note, we rejoice that he is Home with Our Father, Our Lord and Savior! We also know that he is truly cutting a mean shout up there inbetween all of the musical numbers he's doing up there :) Our hearts go out to the family and we are here for you if you need us :)

June and Family,

Annette and I were shocked and saddened to hear of Joey's passing. I will relish the short moment we spent this past April at the VA Annual Conference in Richmond. He was one of my "sons". Due to recent health issues, I was not able to attend, but we want you to know that we love you and are keeping you and the family in our prayers. Joey will be greatly missed. May God surround you with His comfort and presence through family, friends, and loved ones.

To the Family of Joey Pegram:

I was both shocked and saddened by the news of Joey going to be with the Lord. Joey was a blessing to my life personally and professionally while I was in Virginia. Joey assisted me with both the after-school program and summer camp. He was an asset, freely giving his time and gifts. He was patient & gifted in helping the kids with their homework and particulary teaching them to like math. Just a few of the gifts he shared. It's times like this that reinforces that life is short, precious, and PEOPLE are important and not THINGS.

Even though I could not be there in body, my prayers were there and are still there. No words can express...but may God in His Wisdom keep you, strenghthen and assure you that everything is gonna be alright...it's already Done. Min. Deb Wesley

Psalm 116:15

Precious in the sight of the LORD is the death of his saints.

Dear Bro. Pegram and loved ones,

Although we only met a few times when you visited Bethel, know that you are in our prayers.

I do not need to tell you that Joey was a fun, loving, respectful, Holy Ghost filled, child of God, because you already know that.

I do, however, want to share with you Joey's and mine favorite phrase [for a few years now] whenever Joey said he was playing somewhere.

Me: You're playing?
Joey: Yes ma'am
Me: Then I am bringing my shouting shoes!
Joey: Yes ma'am , bring 'em.

Then he would do a mini Holy Ghost tap with his feet.

I am brokenhearted, and will truly miss him, but look forward to bringing my shouting shoes when we meet in heaven, because I know he is directing some heavenly choir, for I believe that Jesus welcomed him with opened arms.

It was a blessing and privilege to have known Joey.

take care
be blessed

God has an angel living with Him now, and I know you are taking over the choir. May God bless you and keep you in His care. I will always love you.

Adrienne & Larry:

Although I am unable to be with you today, do know that you are in my prayers. I pray that the Lord will comfort you as only God can do, and fill you with a peace that will assure you that your son is alright now.

God’s love permeates your beings, and will indeed sustain you. Surely, you have encouraged others in times like these, and know all to well that our God is the God of all comfort who comforts us in our hour of need. Yet, now the shoe is on the other foot, and so I am praying that the Lord would indeed comfort, encourage, and strengthen you and the family today, tomorrow, and in the days to come.

The Scripture affirms that “to be absent in the body is to be present with the Lord.” You are my sister, my friend, and in that sense of family, know that I am here for you. Be encouraged. May
Almighty God, bless you with a peace that only our God can give.

I would like to express my deepest sympathies to the family and loved ones of a wonderful person and friend of mine, Joey Pegram. I loved Joey. He was a one-of-a-kind personality. He loved music, he loved God and he loved everyone and the thing I loved about him most was that Joey was going to be Joey regardless. Either you loved him or you didn't. He was always eager to serve. Joey had a special way of asking for a favor that was almost impossible to say no to. He always had a smile, a funny story about experiences growing up in the AME and COGIC churches. He always had a song, even though sometimes I could not tell if he was making them up or if they were actual songs. The strength that is getting me through this is I have a picture in my head of him with that million-dollar smile on his face, laughing or making someone else laugh and just being Joey in general. I will miss you dearly, my friend and when the Lord allows we can share more songs, funny stories and experiences. Rest in peace, my friend. Well done!!

Joseph Pegram and Adrienne:

It saddens me to hear about Joey, but know that others are praying with you and thinking of you during this time of sorrow. God will keep you in His perfect peace. Joey was in my NSU Vocal Jazz ensemble and he enjoyed playing the piano and singing in our group. He will be truly missed. Jospeh, as a collegue from the Virginia School for the Deaf & Blind at Hampton and as a mother who has lost a son, I know what you are going through. As time goes on, you will think about Joey during those special days, such as his birthday and holidays. Laugh about

To Joey's Family,
I was Joey's Pastor for the last 6 years. I loved him like he was my own son, although I knew I was simply a surrogate father appointed for his spiritual journey. His loss has profoundly saddened me and I have been forced to truly internalize the wonder and sovereigmty of God's love for me for the privilidge being in the glow of Joey Pegram's very bright and glorious light. I will count it one of the highlights of my ministry to have had a chance to make a healthy and productive spiritual deposit into Joey's life.
I thank you, Mr. Pegram and Mrs. Buckner for allowing God to use you to bring him into the world and I thank you for sharing your son with me. I loved him, Perfecting Saints Church loved him and our only desire was and is to see Joey be everything God ordained him to be. God will has been done, Joey life was a powerful wittness of love, encouragement and strength of soul. He now knows what we who are still here can only believe.
(Joey, You will never leave my heart and I will honor your tremendous spirit and life as long as I live. And when I have joined you in the hereafter, when I get to heaven, after I see Jesus, I will look for you to say all that I didn't get to say to you here. I love you son. Enjoy the Glory!)

Our deepest condolences to the Buckner/ Pegram Family. Losing a loved one is never easy. Be encouraged and remember that "The Joy of the Lord is your strength." (Neh 8:10) Please accept our deepest condolences on the loss of your son. Joey was a joy to know. His bright smile, vibrant personality, and his encouraging demeanor will truly be missed. Every time Joey entered the sanctuary at Perfecting Saints Worship Center his personality and obvious love for God lit up the room. May the knowledge that Joey has earned his wings and is playing in God's choir now comfort you all in your time of bereavement and days to come.

The Lord is our shepherd, these are the words that come to mind when I think about death. Although we never have a complete understanding of why it has to happen we know that it does. Joey served as a great servant here on earth, but now he will serve as an angel in the heavens above. Remember that our GOD never makes mistakes. I will continue to keep you lifted in prayer.

To the Family of Joey,
My prayers and condolences are with all of you. I only knew Joey as the musician at Bethel, but his loving and caring spirit showed for others and for the Lord. I will never forget his smile or his voice, but I know he's using those talents in heaven. God bless and keep you all. He will be missed, but not forgotten.

Adrienne, I was so sorry to hear of Joey's transition to his Heavenly home.I know he was and will remain the apple of your eye. When you smell a fragrance with no apparent source, when you feel a breeze against your cheek on a windless day, when you feel the presence of love when theres no one there.. just know that it is Joey... hugging you ,kissing you and just telling you " Mom , I'm here. I was your best friend in life and I still am through eternity. Grandma and Grandpa did not want to see me so soon but they have recieved me with open arms and guess what ..they must be previliged because they were allowed to personally escort me to see my Heavenly Father. I know this is hard for you but I am fine. Mom I just want you to live the life to join me. I know that that won't be a problem because you raised me in true Christianity and was a true role model . I know you will be with me one day. Mom I love this choir up here. Guess what!!! everyone has a perfect voice.""
My recollection of Joey was during the annual conferences when he directed the youth choirs in his fabulous " Rock of Ages" The true measure of a person is when even though you had few encounters that they still leave such an impression on you because they radiated talent, spirituality and love and you knew that you were in the presence of greatness.
