Catherine Leclaire

Catherine Leclaire of Charlottesville, formerly of Penn Valley, Pennsylvania, died on Saturday, November 3, 2012, at the age of ninety-seven. She was born on March 29, 1915, the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Spinharney of Barnum, Iowa.

She attended Buena Vista College and the University of Iowa School of Nursing. Upon graduation, she worked at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia and as a stewardess for American Airlines in New York, where she flew on some of the earliest transcontinental passenger flights. She wed Robert I. Miller of Philadelphia in 1942. They moved to Charlottesville in 1967 after his retirement from Curtis Publishing Company. In 1990, she married Dr. George Leclaire of Winter Park, Florida. After his death, she moved to Westminster Canterbury in Charlottesville.

She is survived by daughter, Patricia Beswick, son-in-law, Dr. Charles Beswick, and grandsons, Robert and Steven Beswick, all of California.

A memorial service will be held in December with a burial at Monticello Memory Gardens. Plans are pending. Friends may sign the guest book at www.hillandwood.com.
