Amy Bjorn Obituary

Amy Caroline (Anderson) Bjorn

Amy Caroline (Anderson) 88, passed away on Thursday, October 14, 2010.

Amy was born in Granby, Connecticut, on July 29, 1922, the oldest daughter of Swedish immigrants, Eric and Greta Anderson.

Amy went to the one room school house on Bushy Hill Road in Granby. After completing her freshman year at Simsbury High School, the family returned to Boras, Sweden, aboard the Gripsholm ocean liner in 1936. At the age of 14, Amy began working in a textile factory in Boras where eventually she oversaw operations. She remained in Sweden until 1946 when she and her sister, Ruth, returned to Connecticut. She was employed as a maid for the Bliss family in Hartford and later worked as a key punch operator at the Aetna Insurance Company.

In 1949, Amy married Leonard F. Bjorn and in 1957 they moved to Glastonbury. In 1976, her family celebrated with Amy when she achieved a long time wish and earned her GED. Amy was a talented artist, an expert seamstress and a prolific writer. Her family and home were central to her life. Though very shy, Amy met all the challenges life had to offer her with determination, without compromise and in her own way.

Amy was predeceased by her husband of 58 years Leonard F. Bjorn; older brother, George Aderstedt formerly of Boras, Sweden; younger brother, Eric L. Anderson formerly of Cromwell, Connecticut; and youngest sister, Greta E. Krischus formerly of Rocky Hill, Connecticut.

She is survived by two sisters, Elvira Sivertsen of Tromso, Norway, and Ruth Jacob of Mystic, Connecticut; a brother, John Morgan Anderson of New Bern, North Carolina; a son, Leonard E. Bjorn of Manchester, Connecticut; a daughter and son-in-law, Greta and Robert Horton of Glastonbury, Connecticut; a daughter, Karen Bjorn of Charlottesville, Virginia; and six grandchildren, including Eric Horton of Charlottesville, Virginia.

The family would like to thank everyone who contributed to caring for Amy during her last years, but especially to the nursing staff of Hospice Vitas for their kind and compassionate care.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Vitas, 628 Hebron Avenue, Suite 300, Glastonbury, CT 06033.

A celebration of Amy's life will be held at a later date. Ingenting under solen ar bestandigt.

I am so sorry for your loss. I have very fond memories of your mother and father when they lived on Benton Lane. It seems like only yesterday. Please know that I am thinking of all of you.

I know that you were scared, but grandpa took your gentle hand and told you it's okay. He kissed your soft lips and told you that he loves you. I know that you didn't know what was going on, but grandpa just stood by your side and told you; you don't have to be afraid. He told you that you are going home with him where your love will always shine.

I know that you didn't want to leave your children, but they told you that it was okay. All your children kissed you and told they love you very much. The bond that a child and mother has will never go way. All the things your mother taught you; you will never be forgotten. For the love a mother and child will always be forever.

The love that a grandmother has is very special very much indeed. For grandma knows exactly what will make you smile, and treat you with a special surprise. Grandma your cooking is always good especially when the Holiday's came. Grandma taught us many things that we will never forget. For Grandma love is special and that will never be forgotten.

The love that we had for you and grandpa will never fade or turn to gray. For the love you had for your family was stronger than glue.

Be at peace with Grandpa know and tell him that we love him too.
