She was also preceded in death by a brother, Jack Crowder.

Ardella was a graduate of Covington High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and loved knitting, sewing, bird watching, playing the piano, and bragging about her grandchildren.

Surviving her are her husband, James W. Brackens of Charlottesville; a son, James W. Brackens Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of Chapel Hill, North Carolina; a daughter, Kathy Jay and her husband, Woody, of Greenwich, Connecticut; five grandchildren; and a sister, Aleise Watts of Wilmington, Delaware.

Jim Sr., Jim Jr. and Carolyn,

I have known Jim and Carolyn since high school days, and met you and Ardella along the way. I am very sorry that Ardella has gone on before us, but very happy to know where she is now. I remember when I first met her and recall how friendly, loving, warm, honest, and funny she was. I know you will miss her deeply. My only advice is to remember all the joy, good times and laughter you had together, and one day it will be easier to let go of the pain and heartache you now feel. Love and best wishes to all of your family.

Libby and I are were sorry to hear of the passing of Ardella. She was always the best of friends and we will cherish the memories of our travels in the Club business. To you Jim and the family we will be thinking of you on Thursday and Friday sorry we will not be able to attend. This is always a tough time for all families, just remember she will be in a better place with her Lord no more suffering. Take care and we will check with you later.
